Desire and efforts of a dreamer woman

India has undergone a lot of change under the new leadership for sure. It has gone for better. However, it is still a developing country. With uneven growth and living standards. With uneven treatment to citizenry.

Like every place else, it is the resource less people who suffer most. The social stigma remains. Some legal vocations are looked upon because they are in the domain of poor people. I call them resource less. When you are poor, your network of people is also resourceless not only in financial sense but also in education and empowerment manner.

A truck driver is one of the relatively resourceless people. Despite removal of octroi and check points, the road transport officers (RTOs), police and all are regularly more unjust and unhelpful to poor folks. They also extract bribe money from the poor more frequently than dare do that to relative rich and resourceful. The resting place for the truck drivers is frequently bad. Forget the female truck driver, these facilities are sub standard for even male drivers. It takes enormous courage to drive a truck at night and for long distances. Robbery and swindling are all too common. Miscreants know that a truck driver is alone.

What about a lawyer turning into a truck driver? There is every chance in India that a long-distance truck driver will make more money than a lawyer in a small city. So much more for a junior lawyer starting out.

The hero of my story is Ms. Yogita Raghuvanshi, a mother of two, who dreamt about making her daughter an information technology engineer after her husband’s death. She has been running long haul trucks for 16 years now. She dreams about sending her son for an advanced degree abroad. With her efforts she will fulfil this dream too. Her son is already an engineering student.
