Designs and Designers of Influence

In this week’s newsletter, we’re looking at what brings us together as a firm and as a community. Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating our design work and the people behind it. Catch up below.

1. DLR Group Employee-ownership Grows with 200+ Leadership Appointments

We are proud to announce this year's appointees: two managing principals, four senior principals, 28 principals, as well as 174 senior associates and associates.

Our appointments celebration is a cherished time of year – as a 100% employee-owned firm, it's one of our opportunities to recognize leaders who are transforming the way we do business, who are committed to our core values, and who encourage us all to go further. Here's a look at these inspiring individuals.

2. Designed Connections Elevate Learning Experiences

"Gretna East High School stands out not just for its stunning architecture but also for its remarkable efficiency in accommodating student needs," says Superintendent Travis Lightle of Gretna Public Schools in Gretna, Nebraska.

Gretna is a rapidly growing community. As long-term partners with the school district, we developed a master plan that includes the new Gretna East High School. In collaboration with students, we chose themes reflecting the community's rural roots and designed a rhythmic aesthetic for the fa?ade. Our goal was to accommodate the growing student body by prioritizing connected spaces, efficient site organization, building orientation, and access to outdoor spaces – all to create a unique learning experience that meets diverse needs. Learn how our design draws users through the space, creating moments of pause.

4. World Interiors Day

Growing the #interiordesign profession is an ongoing, ceaseless endeavor. DLR Group designers worldwide demonstrate their commitment through actions that make this profession more accessible and attainable. Our recent audit of activities includes guest lectures, critiques, university charrettes, resume writing, portfolio reviews, career fairs, job shadows, tours, mentorship programs, industry events, volunteering, and much more. So, if you are interested in or know someone who might be interested in a career as an interior designer, share this with them.

5. Mass Timber: Creating Office Environments Worth Rooting For

“The successful use of carbon-neutral materials like mass timber in the built environment is challenging the whole industry to think differently about what materials we’re using and how this helps inform the spaces we’re designing.”

In a special interview with Think Wood , Senior Interior Designer Danielle Anderson shares her vision to integrate mass timber in more of her designs. Watch the video and read the article here.
