Design Your Future Self

Week 37: Design Your Future Self

?

Last week, I embarked on a unique journey, an exercise in mental time travel. The experience left me with profound insights that I believe are worth sharing. Mental time travel is a powerful exercise that enables us to project ourselves into the future, gaining insights into our desired goals and aspirations. By envisioning our life three years from now, we can cultivate a clearer understanding of the steps required to reach our objectives across professional, personal, and spiritual dimensions.

?

Setting the Stage:

Begin by finding a quiet and comfortable space where you can reflect and imagine. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let your mind transport you to a point three years ahead. Picture your surroundings, visualise the details, and immerse yourself in this future version of yourself.

?

Professional Growth:

·??????Where are you working? Describe your workplace and the role you play. Is it aligned with your passions and skills?

·??????What achievements have you accomplished? Consider your accomplishments, promotions, projects, and how they contributed to your growth.

·??????Who are your mentors or collaborators? Envision the individuals who inspire and guide you on your professional journey.

·??????What skills have you developed? Identify the skills you've honed to excel in your field and contribute meaningfully.

?

Personal Fulfilment:

·??????Describe your lifestyle. How do you spend your free time? What hobbies and activities bring you joy and relaxation?

·??????Relationships that matter. Visualise your connections with friends, family, and loved ones. How have these relationships evolved?

·??????Physical and mental well-being. Envision yourself healthier and more balanced. What habits and routines support your well-being?

·??????Personal growth and learning. Consider the ways you've expanded your knowledge and pursued personal development.

?

Spiritual Enrichment:

·??????What brings you inner peace? Reflect on your spiritual practices and how they've deepened over the years.

·??????Contributions to the world. How are you making a positive impact on your community or the larger world?

·??????Alignment with values. Are your actions and decisions in alignment with your core beliefs and values?

?

Now that we have imagined who we want to be in all the multi-faceted dimensions, the next logical step is to plan for actions today, that will help us evolve into that future version.

?

?

·??????Setting clear goals. Based on your envisioned future, set specific, measurable goals for the next year, six months, and even the next month. Break these goals into actionable steps that align with your envisioned path.

·??????Building habits. Identify habits that will support your journey and cultivate consistency in their practice.

·??????Seeking guidance. Reach out to mentors, coaches, or experts who can provide insights and support.

?

Mental time travel is a transformative exercise that empowers us to align our actions with our aspirations. By diving into the future, we gain clarity on what we truly want and how to get there. This exercise not only helps us design a roadmap for success but also cultivates a sense of purpose, fulfilment, and harmony across all dimensions of our lives. So, close your eyes, embark on this journey, and let your future self guide you towards the life you envision.
