The Essence of Design
Design is often misconceived as simply the creation of drawings or enhancing aesthetics. Nevertheless, design transcends these notions; it is the art of visually articulating complex thoughts and ideas that words may struggle to convey. Positioned among the most crucial professions, design is a key component for every brand and organization, facilitating effective communication even in seemingly everyday tasks like composing an email. The thought process behind selecting the right font, structuring ideas, deciding on the inclusion of images, and determining emphasis through bold formatting embodies the essence of design in these everyday scenarios.
Designing goes beyond crafting visually appealing elements; it entails a deep understanding of the audience and their preferred ways of visual communication.
This realization has given rise to the graphic design profession and its diverse branches, such as animation, video design, editorial design, logo design, and online design. In essence, design is a dynamic discipline that caters to the different preferences of the audience, transcending the simple objective of visual appeal.
Educating industry, clients, and colleagues about the true essence of design is crucial. Often, colleagues are unfamiliar with the time and communication styles involved in design work. Specific design language, like requesting an image in 300 dpi, can be a source of confusion. This lack of understanding interferes with effective collaboration and underscores the need for design education. By enlightening stakeholders, we pave the way for a more efficient work environment and help clients appreciate the design process's importance in achieving optimal results.
