Design House 2024: A Source of Inspiration for ABNDZ Studio in CDMX
I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Design House 2024 in Mexico City, and it was nothing short of a masterclass in forward-thinking, innovative design. This year’s event brought together some of the most talented design studios and vendors, showcasing an impressive variety of concepts, materials, and styles that felt fresh, inspired, and unmistakably influenced by Mexico City's unique design heritage.
From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the sophisticated use of natural materials, especially the extensive use of marble. It was refreshing to see such a timeless element making a strong statement, proving once again that nature’s beauty, when incorporated thoughtfully, elevates any space. One of my favorite features was the creative lighting installations—the bold and sculptural pieces were artworks in themselves. I was particularly thrilled to see the iconic Tom Dixon Melt chandeliers, which I had recently used in a client project. Their inclusion felt like a nod to timeless design choices that resonate on an international level.
What stood out to me the most was the presence of brutalist design elements, which have always been a source of inspiration for me, especially here in Mexico City. The city's bold, brutalist architecture—with its raw, exposed materials and strong geometric forms—speaks to a fearless design philosophy. It’s this very spirit of challenging norms and thinking outside the box that I hope to bring into my own projects, whether they be residential or commercial.
Attending Design House 2024 was not only a privilege but also a reminder of why I love what I do. It’s experiences like these that fuel my passion for design and push me to continue evolving ABNDZ Studio’s approach. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness such a dynamic showcase and to all the studios and vendors who made it happen. The inspiration I gathered will certainly find its way into my upcoming projects, helping me craft spaces that are as daring as they are beautiful.
Here’s to taking risks, celebrating craftsmanship, and embracing the unexpected in design! ??
