???Design Delivery Survey Report

A graphic for the design delivery survey report

For the first time ever, we’re applying our survey practice to a new area beyond tools: how designers deliver designs to be implemented (often known as “handoff”). As usual, we’re sharing all our data and insights as a free resource for the design community.

?? Scoop

What’s going on in the world of product design and why it matters.

We're seeing an increase in posts about job searching, giving up on UX, and layoffs.

Our take

We're aware of how hard the job market is right now—we wish everyone the best! Some in the community are wondering if they should accept an offer even if the title is lower (such as?this question on Reddit?or this?wisdom from Cameron Moll). Here are my thoughts on job titles:

  • Seniority levels are?very?different between companies. A step "down" at one company may have similar compensation and responsibilities to a more senior title at another company.
  • Shifting up or down one seniority level is pretty easy to make up for in the future, but be careful if it's more than that. Skip-level job changes are common, but I've seen designers get trapped if they over-inflate their title (because no one else may hire you at that level).
  • Many things are more important than title, such as: compensation, work/life balance, job enjoyment, team culture, etc.
  • Making ends meet for you and your family might be more important than your title, but I hope you can find the right balance for yourself. ?

Quick item to consider this week.

So much about design depends on context: business, environment, stage, and most importantly, human behavior. It's up to you (and your team) to figure out what works best.
