The Design for Deeper Learning series, now five years running, creates a community of practice for nonprofit/social sector educators. We invite experts to share their unique knowledge, tools, and perspectives with people who deliver workshops, webinars, or conference sessions within the social sector. This year's speakers -- Julie Dirksen , Fawn Sanchez, MBA , and Mike Taylor will teach us about behavior change, storytelling, and AI.
Our goal is to elevate effective and inclusive adult learning practices in the nonprofit and public sectors so the people who work on behalf of our communities have the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to thrive, and the people served by nonprofits and the public sector live with joy and liberation.
Grateful for our partners!?AZ Impact for Good,?Maine Association of Nonprofits,?Montana Nonprofit Association,?North Carolina Center for Nonprofits,?Wyoming Nonprofit Network, and Nonprofit Learning Center.

Using Stories to Expand Learning
Fawn Sanchez, Learning & Development professional
For millennia, Native peoples have used stories to unlock learning. Stories introduce cultural humility and expose cultural biases and show us how preconceived notions influence how we learn and retain information. When we harness the power of stories in our learning and development programs, we can better understand our audience and build inclusive learning, using the Native American culture as an example.
This session will use a storytelling method to introduce how cultural considerations and lived experiences can influence how one learns. Through mini lessons and stories, we will experience a cultural way of teaching from Indigenous cultures. We will see, for example, how Native American stories often include elements of nature to teach a lesson, showing our connectedness to all things and helping in knowledge retention by relating the lesson to a visual aid.
