DESIGN AND CREATIVITY TECHNIQUE Multiple iterations: Finding the right composition.
Antonio Hyeok Lee artistic work for the Encounters exhibition at the HEADLINE GALLERY explores lines, solids, movement, and balance in his art creating process. Some pieces create tension while others create harmony. “Lee's practice aims to create harmonious elements on canvases” Ms. Misa Yamaoka Founder of HEADLINE GALLERY. During his process he produces multiple iterations of a composition and studies them until he achieves the right balance between the elements on the canvas.
This is a technique used my many artists and one we often use in design. Whether it is a space, a graphic element on a wall, webpage, or logo. We explore compositions and balance in two dimensional surfaces and in spatial relations. Exploring is a key term in this technique. We need to produce multiple iterations, experiment, edit and sometimes even go back to the start. We need to try, try again and then try once more until we get the right result.
The only part of this process that differs when applied either to art or design, is that in the design process we need to be considerate of the project’s timeline. Unlike creating art, which can in some ways be infinite and never complete, design has a deadline. This is the strength of a good, experienced designer, who’s process of modification, elimination and selection is efficient and more precise.?
