Design and Build Great Web APIs has been released!
It's official, the book is done and ready to order!
I've been working on my latest book, "Design and Build Great Web APIs" (https://g.mamund.com/greatwebapis) for close to two years. It took a lot longer than I'd expected and I'm very happy that we've finally got it out the door and into the hands of readers.
I had the privilege of working with the Pragmatic Programmers (#pragprog) team on this project and it was a great experience. Special shout out to Katie Dvorak who worked with closely with me to shape the material and helped "find the book" hidden in all my writing<g>.
This book is a collection of patterns and practices I've learned over the years. It covers the design process (Model, Design, Describe), the build process (Sketch, Prototype, Build) and the release process (Test, Secure, Deploy). There are also chapters covering API-First, HTTP, and Modifying APIs once they are up and running in production. Each chapter introduces at least one tool or service that I regularly use to build my APIs and there are working exercises at the end of every chapter. Whether you're looking for an overview on an API lifecycle approach or a hands-on tutorial, there should be something here for you.
I'm also adding short video content to my youtube channel (https://g.mamund.com/youtube) that includes playlists for the book and for several other API-related topics. If you're curious, feel free to dip into one of the many videos there to get a sense of what the book is like and what it covers. And be sure to subscribe to the channel as I'll be adding more videos in the coming days and weeks.
Like most all book projects, there are things I had to leave out but I hope readers will find the contents covered here helpful and encouraging. I got great feedback from tech reviewers and beta readers and tried to add as many of their suggestions to the text as I could.
Check it out, let me know what you think and I hope to see you online.
