Design and branding trends for 2024
The world of design moves at a very fast pace, and as we settle into 2024 there’s no sign of it slowing down. What’s more, if you want to be at the top of your game, you need to know all about the design and branding trends that are tipped to be big. Thankfully, I’ve done the hard work for you and pulled together a comprehensive list of trends so that you know exactly where you need to channel your thoughts and focus this year.
The power of AI
Whether we like it or not, AI is here to stay. In the design landscape, it’s certainly been met with backlash but there are instances where it can be used to speed up the overall design process and elevate your brand’s impact.
While there is nothing better than human research, technique, and craft, where time is limited, AI can be used to gather and analyse data, providing businesses with strategic insights that can be used to increase customer engagement and purchases. Even without the adoption of AI, it’s likely that branding strategies will take on a more data-driven approach over the next 12 months.
Peach Fuzz
Pantone have released their colour of the year for 2024 and it’s a soft and feminine, Peach Fuzz. The global brand described the colour as “subtly sensual… bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.” Ideal as a base colour or even used as a secondary colour alongside pinks, greys, blue and black and white for example, expect to see this uplifting colour in both physical and digital marketing campaigns.
As well as Peach Fuzz, vibrant colours including Barbie Pink are expected to be in high demand. These tones look great when paired with playful designs and shapes, which not only resonates with more people but also a younger audience. Abstract gradients using bright and clashing colours is also something that’s been popular in 2023 and I think this will continue.
Depackaging and sustainability
Many supermarket brands have made a conscious effort to reduce unnecessary packaging over the years and this is going to continue. What’s more, a Deloitte study found that sustainable packaging and reducing waste were two factors that consumers cared about the most. It’s no surprise then that we’re seeing more brands experimenting with package-less packaging, paper-gulp containers and even edible packaging . Where there is packaging, sustainable material choices are high on the agenda and responsible manufacturing processes are key too.
This presents a challenge, however. With less packaging, there is reduced space for graphics and branding design which is why designers are required to get smarter than ever to communicate brand and product details. Designers are now using colour and layouts in an even more intelligent way and smart graphics like QR codes allow consumers to find more information away from the product.

Simplicity and minimalism
In a world of information overload, clean and concise branding with uncluttered visuals can resonate with customers. The famous saying, ‘less is more’ has never been truer and it certainly aligns with customers who want clarity and elegance. What’s more, it’s also a great way to stand out in the market. Grids and visible borders are tipped to be popular design trends in 2024, not only helping customers to read your content but providing an eye-catching finish to campaigns too.
Nature-inspired
Interest in bio and organic products is soaring and it’s inspiring our designs too. Natural colours, natural materials and an overall natural feeling are all popular choices. While this trend might not be right for every business or industry, the use of beiges, browns, greens, and creams can bring balance and order to your design. Real-life inspired textures and recycled elements can also help to tell a story about your brand values and commitment, without any words.
Moving graphics
One trend that appears to have made a comeback from years ago is moving graphics - whether it’s the logo, general website design or even a specific design as the mouse cursor moves around the page. In addition to this, we’re seeing the dot trend on typography which is where mini dots make up a letter. Often, these dots are in motion too which can either provide a retro vibe or high-tech look.
Another design element that’s returned is pixels. In fact, I’ve seen quite a few letters and graphics using a combination of retro pixel elements that are in motion. It gives off an instant retro feel and can be creative.
So, there you have it. A few of the biggest design trends that will help to elevate your design in 2024. Of course, it’s no a case of implementing them all but knowing which ones suit your business and target audience.
