Tomorrow, Tuesday 12th January at 2:00 pm Paris time, Dr. Yicha ZHANG will defend his Habilitation to Manage Research. He defended his PhD under my supervision in 2014 at Centrale Nantes and he his now Associate Professor at UTBM (France).

The abstract of his work is the following:

Additive Manufacturing (AM) has become a critical shape forming technology and a promising processing candidate technology for customized and high value product development. However, qualified AM is still in the waiting list of industry. Three main types of questions, which concern feasibility, suitability and stability, have not been well answered. Research efforts need to be made along different axis to help improving the industrialization of AM. This HDR report at first summarizes the main research and teaching/student supervision activities of the author in the domain of AM. Then, it highlights his representative contributions to the development of qualified AM along three directions, the physical process development, printing preparation optimization and design for AM. Finally, it exhibits the author’s understanding and opinion about the future research in design for AM. It also introduces the author’s early exploration of new methods for expanding the roadmap of design for AM. A couple of research results on these new methods are also introduced. Globally, it presents the general research structure and plan of the author in the domain of design for AM as well as his vision for future research on this topic.
