Describe YOURSELF !
On of the very common questions asked in the interview board. Be it experienced or freshers, interviewers commonly ask this question.
According to me below are the underneath reason behind asking this question:
To know about the candidate
They ask this question and meanwhile they go through candidate’s CV
They ask to see how well the candidate know them-self and how they are expressing themselves.
They also ask this question to find out how well prepared the candidate is and to find further questions.
However, this question is important and commonly faced. Probably the chances are around 70% that you will face the question. There are few different thoughts on how one should reply to this question:
a. Freshers should tell interviewer about their family, educational, interests, how they are; what they have done or accomplished etc.
b. Freshers should only talk about their interest points and accomplishments, future plans etc.
c. Freshers should summarize their CV.
Personally, I prefer a mix of the above which is, A bit of family back ground, educational background followed by activities and interests relating with the job requirements.
Let me come-up with an example. Suppose someone is interested to build his/her career in Sales and was active in club activities. This is how s/he should reply:
I have a family of X members, my parents were involved in business/service, my siblings are working/operating business. I have completed my graduation from East West University having major in Marketing and my CGPA was XXX. I have had interest to build my career in sales as I feel I am good with people. In order to pursue my interest and maintain healthy physic I was involve with Sports club and I used to play Cricket/Football. I was also participating in Debate programs and I have represented University in National Parliamentary Debate competition, I have a keep interest on debate as it helps on public speaking and also build up logic driven thinking and communication. I was also a member of Business club and have organized X number of seminars, fairs and workshop which I believe will help to build up my organizing capabilities and sharpen my abilities to instruct and lead a team and team-building. I tend to see myself as an outgoing person who is also good with people who love to explore and take challenges.
Now, the reason behind coming up with above reply was it gives information on family, education and personal interests. It also showcases qualities like logic driven, communication, organized, challenge takers, team approach and managerial abilities. All these qualities are highly appreciated for the Sales profession. So, naturally back of the mind of interviewers this candidate will create an impression that this candidate will be a good choice for Sales.
Graduating students, you have worked very hard to achieve this degree and you are stepping towards a new chapter of life. Now with confidence you just need to fine-tune and polish yourself. Please take preparation; I have just given you guideline now you need to prepare yours one that describes you better aligning with the job role.
I wish you all the Best !
Well written Bhaiya. Agreed with you that employers/Interviewers search for unorthodox approach from candidates. To fulfil the expectation, candidates should start their introduction with different note & presenting own strength in session is very smart way of presenting.? ? ? ? ? ? ?
