Dan Gackowski, an Account Executive at Descartes, shares his thoughts on the culture of support at Descartes.

What drew you to Descartes?

I was looking at different options in tech and software. What struck me was the longevity of account executives' tenure was 7-8 years. That’s 3x longer than other industries. It’s an indicator I use to determine what the culture of a company is like. As I started the interview process, everyone was friendly and authentic. Any anxiety I had around learning both the ecommerce industry and Descartes software was relieved when I learned of the extensive training and support. It’s a place where they set you up for success from day one.

Why do you stay?

The flexibility and the work environment here is incredible. I wasn’t looking for a remote role but the opportunity to work from anywhere - a set up Descartes had prior to the pandemic - is a big perk. It eliminates any stress if you have to take a few hours off or start later due to things that come up in life. The internal team training is a major focus and embedded into our week. It’s a convenient way to build my skills and grow my knowledge - which enables me to be highly effective in my role.??

In addition, I think the team dynamic is great. Working with Troy Graham's team there’s a clear sense that he cares about you on a personal level. My background in the Navy and in other leadership roles provides me with insights into what makes a great manager, how they can nurture a strong team - and at Descartes, we do a great job fostering a positive experience.

What advice would you offer someone considering a role at Descartes?

There is so much opportunity to make an impact here as an Account Executive. You work closely with clients, getting to know their needs and ensuring they are engaging with our solutions in the right way. This is a global company working with major players, but everyone here is approachable and invested in making a difference.
