Desafios das IAs generativas
Que a inteligência artificial é a tecnologia da vez a gente já sabe, mas a forma como interagimos com ela no mundo real ainda é novidade. Semana passada, a DeepSeek - uma startup chinesa de IA - impressionou o ocidente por seu desempenho ao ponto de despencar diversas a??es da bolsa de Nova Iorque.
O que diferencia essa inteligência das outras assistentes que já conhecemos é que, além de gratuita, usa menos dados e custa uma fra??o do custo dos modelos de empresas já estabelecidas, marcando um ponto de virada no desenvolvimento e no acesso à Inteligência Artificial.
Muito mais próxima do que se imaginava ser ‘o propósito da internet’ nos anos 1990 e início dos 2000, a DeepSeek faz uso de código aberto, raciocínio explícito e aprendizagem por refor?o, transformando o que se acreditava ser uma restri??o um ponto de inova??o no mercado das big techs.
Em números, as Magnificent 7 (Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla e Meta) perderam US$ 1 trilh?o em valor de mercado em 27 de janeiro. E quais os impactos dessa mudan?a para nós?
Lucia Santaella, professora e pesquisadora em Semiótica na PUC-SP, traz reflex?es iniciais em artigo recente, junto a demais autores. Ela comenta que “os desafios das IAs generativas refletem a complexidade de um mundo cada vez mais interconectado, mas profundamente desigual. (...) Enquanto Estados Unidos, China e Uni?o Europeia lideram a corrida, países em desenvolvimento enfrentam barreiras estruturais que dificultam sua soberania digital, agravando desigualdades socioecon?micas e culturais. Além disso, a falta de diversidade nos times de desenvolvimento e a exclus?o de línguas e contextos locais resultam em solu??es que n?o atendem à complexidade das comunidades globais, criando um abismo digital que compromete o potencial inclusivo dessas tecnologias.”

We already know that artificial intelligence is the technology of the moment, but how we interact with it in the real world is still new. Last week, DeepSeek - a Chinese AI startup - impressed the West with its performance to the point of causing a plunge in several stocks on the New York Stock Exchange.
What sets this intelligence apart from the other assistants we already know is that, in addition to being free, it uses less data and costs a fraction of the cost of models from established companies, marking a turning point in the development and access to Artificial Intelligence.
Much closer to what was imagined to be 'the purpose of the internet' in the 1990s and early 2000s, DeepSeek makes use of open source code, explicit reasoning and reinforcement learning, transforming what was believed to be a restriction into a point of innovation in the big tech market.
In numbers, the Magnificent 7 (Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla and Meta) lost US$1 trillion in market value on January 27th. And what are the impacts of this change for us?
Lucia Santaella, professor and researcher in Semiotics at PUC-SP, brings initial reflections in a recent article, along with other authors. She comments that "the challenges of generative AIs reflect the complexity of an increasingly interconnected, but deeply unequal world. (...) While the United States, China and the European Union lead the race, developing countries face structural barriers that hinder their digital sovereignty, exacerbating socioeconomic and cultural inequalities. Furthermore, the lack of diversity in development teams and the exclusion of languages and local contexts result in solutions that do not address the complexity of global communities, creating a digital divide that compromises the inclusive potential of these technologies."
