Lux&Pro Hospitality
For us, creating extraordinary hospitality isn't just business — it's personal.
In an exciting new chapter following his departure from D&D London at the end of 2022, former CEO Des Gunewardena has announced the opening of not one, but two new restaurant concepts in London.
Des Gunewardena, is making a significant return to London’s dining scene with the opening of his new venture, Engel & Jeng, at The Royal Exchange in the City of London. This marks his first major project since leaving D&D London at the end of 2022, and launching his own company D3 Collective. It promises to be a flagship establishment combining a restaurant, bar, and event space.
Gunewardena said: “I have always loved the Royal Exchange since my first involvement with the building back in my Conran days. Ardent has some imaginative proposals for evolving what is already a very successful luxury retail and restaurant offer.” - Which boasts The Libertine and The Fortnum & Mason bar/restaurant, amongst others. Things have come full circle, as this is a location D&D London previously operated one of its own Restaurants; Sauterelle.
Engel and Jeng will take over the North South and East mezzanines above the big central courtyard.
Engel will occupy the north and east sides, offering a blend of "cocktails and performance area influenced by 1920s Berlin." – with an all-day menu featuring Austrian and German cuisine, (think German Gymnasium). The bar team, led by Mihai Burca, brings a unique variation of classic and vintage cocktails, accompanied by live cabaret performances. In addition, there will be a new outdoor terrace extending along the Royal Exchange's portico. Jang, featuring modern Korean & Japanese inspired food, led by Dana Choi - said to offer an intimate dining experience.
This project should launch summer this year - An exciting one to watch.
