Dermal Filler Myths Debunked

Dermal Filler Myths Debunked

When it comes to dermal fillers, many people still have images of the overfilled pouts and puffy faces of the past. The truth is, fillers have come a long way, both in terms of technique and product selection. Here’s some of the common misconceptions about today’s dermal filler treatments debunked.

Myth 1: Dermal fillers look unnatural

?FACT: Dermal fillers are designed to replace the lost facial volume of our youth that happens as we age. Dermal fillers work to smooth the appearance of deep folds and lines by replacing the lost fat.

Of course, using too much of anything isn’t good and that is true for many things, including dermal fillers. With the right filler, skillfully applied in the right amounts, we can help our clients achieve a natural, youthful look without looking fake or overfilled.

Myth 2: All dermal fillers work the same way

FACT: Choosing the right filler for the area to be treated is important. Today’s dermal fillers are more specialized than ever and designed to target specific problem area.

Specialized aesthetic medical providers can guide you in your choice of filler. By taking into account a client’s desired outcome and assessing their facial anatomy and skin quality, providers can select the best filler to help them achieve the most natural looking, longest lasting results without that dreaded overfilled look.

Myth 3: Dermal fillers are permanent

FACT: The most widely used filler brands are made using a type of hyaluronic acid (HA), a molecule that’s found naturally in the human body and attracts water like a sponge to keep areas plump and full.

Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, there is very little chance of side effects, making dermal fillers safe and convenient. If you would like less filler in a treated area, HA based fillers can be reversed, generally in just a few days by injecting an enzyme called Vitrase (hyaluronidase).

Myth 4: Dermal filler procedures are painful

FACT: Most dermal fillers include pain numbing agents like lidocaine.?If fear of pain is stopping you from feeling and looking your best, a topical numbing solution can easily be applied prior to treatment at the injection site to increase comfort levels, especially in more sensitive areas like the lips. Blunt tipped micro-cannulas and very small needles are used by most experts to inject fillers, and generally cause very little discomfort.
