Dependency speaks to things that need to happen in an ordered fashion for an agile team to complete another thing, a task that needs to be completed before another increment is began. Thus, a Dependency Map speaks to and allows us to visualize the critical cross-project/tasks dependencies throughout the duration of the project + program. These inter-relationships help us to forecast and predict if any delays, and interruption to flow of work and milestones and timelines for project completions for Roadmaps and Releases.
