The Department of Culture and Tourism of South Wolo Zone has informed us that it is working with partners to stimulate the flow of foreign tourists which has been slowing down overtime.

He discussed with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the South Wolo Zone. This discussion was held with Mr. Mansa Musa, the Ambassador to the African Union for Africa - USA Chamber of Commerce & Industry in the USA, and the General Manager of The Global Trading Network Nardos Moges in order to stimulate the flow of foreign tourists, which has been slowing down significantly for the past years. A much needed consultation to greatly increase the number of foreign tourists visiting the South Wolo Zone was also held with the representatives of the American & African International Trade Commission, The Global Trading Network, The Africa - USA Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Desse City Council of Trade and Sectoral Associations, and private organizations working in the sector in Desse.

The head of the culture and tourism department of the zone, Mr. Mesfan Mekonen, said that 2.5 million tourists visited South Wolo, and that no more than 40 of them were foreign tourists.

Although South Wolo has many religious and natural attractions including two national parks that can be visited by foreigners, foreign tourists are not visiting it due to Corona and the war, the head of the department said.

In this way, the representative of American & African International Trade Commision, Africa - USA Chamber of Commerce & The Global Trading Network pointed out that the resources in the zone and the promotion of the entire zone are being done. In addition to increasing the number of foreign tourists, the relevant institutions should pay attention to expanding the hotel tourism sector and making infrastructure accessible.

Mr. Ahmed Hasan worked in various positions in the government and as the Secretary General of Desei, Kombolchana and Amhara Regional Chamber of Commerce before he started his personal career. In cooperation with the Dese City Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the American & African International Trade Commission, The Global Trading Network, The Africa - USA Chamber of Commerce, including South Wolo, came and visited Dese City, Kombolchana and the Afar region.

According to Mr. Ahmed, due to the fact that the importers are in Addis Ababa, various imported products are unloaded in Kombolcha and transported to Addis Ababa, then unloaded in Kombolcha and accessible to the community of Desena and the surrounding area. Countries with much less natural resources than Ethiopia have created a better place and benefited more. And they say that because we were not able to turn our opportunity into a business, our environment made me go into the business of promoting it.

Mr. Ahmed stated that representatives of The Global Trading Network & American & African International Trade Commission are able to make an impact on investment and tourist activities, by making them aware of the area and to stimulate tourism and make the Chamber of Commerce a member of the International Chamber of Commerce.

He also mentioned that efforts are being made to create tourist destinations in eight places following the footsteps of Emperor Tewodros, including Magdala.

Ambassador Mansa Musa, who is the representative Africa - USA Chamber of Commerce & Chief Commissioner of the American & African International Trade Commission, said that Ethiopia is a country with vast natural resources, natural environmental beauty in addition to being the cradle of civilization and birthplace of humanity. They expressed that they were surprised by what they saw in the island and its surroundings. The ambassador explained that there are 591 private investors and 5 angel investment companies that want to invest in Africa. In addition, about 6,000 tourist operator companies wanted to visit Africa but could not come due to lack of information. The ambassador confirmed that we will work together to facilitate the way for them to come here and visit and develop by promoting South Wolon, Desena and the surrounding area.

Finally, the discussion was interrupted by a visit to Lake Stephen's Monastery.
