Departing WestJet, destination unknown...

Today I received news that I am one of those 3,333 WestJetter’s not returning to work. Now, more than ever, I am cognizant of how COVID-19 has impacted us all. It has had a major impact on the airline industry, and unfortunately I was one of the tough decisions, that the WestJet leadership team had to make.

Despite being disappointed, I am reminded of all that I have to be thankful for.

First off, my family’s health and well-being. My children are safe and healthy, and I am very thankful for my wonderful, amazing wife, Taz. She has always been my personal hero, especially now more than ever as she continues her efforts, as a healthcare worker, keeping all Albertan's safe. I am always thankful for your constant love and support.

I am very appreciative to live in Canada, where our response to COVID has helped millions of Canadians stay at home, have food on their tables, and ultimately stay safe. We should all be thankful for our healthcare system and the hard-working professionals fighting every day to keep us safe.

Lastly, I’m thankful for the privilege of being a part of the WestJet family for the past 18 years. I owe this thanks to the many thousands of people who call themselves WestJetters; who’s combined efforts have built WestJet and will return it back to its former glory. It was a pleasure to work for a company that truly valued its guests. I don’t use the term “guest” lightly. Through my work, I always wanted everyone to feel welcomed every-time they stepped onto any of our WestJet aircrafts, from the flight crews friendly jokes to the WestJet Christmas gifts surprises you would see online. As WestJetters, we've followed through on our dreams of providing a truly unique travel experience. But to be successful we needed the flying public to embrace, maybe even brag about it - and you never let us down. Your pride in our airline has always shown through and is why WestJet is still here, still strong and will continue to be ever stronger. Thank you to every guest who has ever joined WestJet on our journey.

In closing, I’m thankful for my family, my time with WestJet, and I am excited for what’s to come. As we continue through this pandemic, please stay safe, respect each other and always remember, we are in this together.
