I was feeling pretty proud of my city this past week. Denver topped Forbes’ 2015 list of the best places for business and careers, a positive side effect of the recent traffic increase and price escalations. For the first time in history, Denver ranks first in the nation as a commercial utopia. Thanks to the diverse economy, highly-educated labor force, and beautiful outdoor advantage, our state has attracted an abundance of inhabitants accompanied by lucrative, bustling business.
Increasingly, large companies serving as vessels for job creation have been moving to the mile high. Lockheed Martin, the $46 billion dollar aerospace contractors recently relocated headquarters to Denver, attracting top talent. Lockheed figured that Denver’s natural recruiting powers could do more for them than any other formal enrollment program.
Panasonic, too, has moved into Colorado, expected to create 330 jobs in the next year. President of Panasonic North America, Jim Doyle, explains the attraction: Denver’s adjacency to reputable universities and the airport. Doyle described moving to Denver to the Denver Business Journal as “somewhat of a slam dunk.”
I am excited to see the opportunities that will come of our expanding business hub. American businessman James Cash Penney said that, “Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” I look forward to the compelling conversations, the friendly competition, and the influential collaborations to be born of our growing business climate. Let’s seize this as an opportunity to bump our companies up to the next level, supporting the future of excellence in business that is upon us.
