Dentists-Update: Which End Are You Holding?

Dentists-Update: Which End Are You Holding?

I have a short, yet very powerful message to share this week.

Here's the idea of it…

It's a good idea in life to know whether or not we're holding the thin end of a thick wedge or the thick end of a thin wedge.

This is what I mean by this...

Very often when we're doing things, particularly say in our dentistry, I'll use dentistry as the example for today.

Unless we are prepared to take what, I call a "ladder look", in other words to raise ourselves up above where we are working, and acting, and living, and take a look from a higher position, sometimes we don't quite realise the road we’re travelling on because our normal view is too tight, but the higher we go, the more we can see.

Sometimes again…

We can find ourselves from that ladder look position, realising we’re actually getting the best we’re ever going to get out of the situation at hand.

Or in other words…

I'm holding the thick edge of a thin wedge.

I've got the best and it's only going to diminish from here.

And I've had some occasions in life when this has happened, and I leave or stop doing it, as the case may be.

A timely thought with Minamata now live.

However, the ladder look…

Will also tell us if we're holding the thin end of what will become a thick wedge, and therefore this is something we should concentrate on, so we get those ever increasing better and bigger, and more enjoyable results.

So how can we take this idea away and use it?

It's just a case of taking the helicopter view.

In other words…

Rising about where we are, even if it’s a case of getting your diary or day planner, or year planner out and looking at the whole year, and taking, a particular task, a particular project you're on, and taking a longer-term view.

What will this look like in a month's time?

In three months' time?

In 12 months' time?

In five years' time?

If we did this with every project we're on, task we're involved in, dentistry we're involved in, patients we're involved with, we’ll soon realise whether or not we're holding the thick end of a thin wedge, or the thin end of a thick wedge.

I said it would be short!

And isn’t this so relevant with Minamata now live?

Hopefully, it was reasonably profound, and you are able to take it away and use it.

Every Success,

Leonard
