Dentistry vs Salesforce

Dentistry vs Salesforce

I am possibly one of the very few dental professionals who have had a complete 180 of their career to Technology so it’s little surprise that I’m always drawing these comparisons. I have highlighted the similarities between the two professions I have spent substantial amount of time in,below,as a fun mental exercise:

?

  1. Preventive Care vs. Preventive Maintenance:Dentistry: Dentists are all about preventing cavities before they become a problem. Regular check-ups, cleanings, and flossing are key.Salesforce: Similarly, Salesforce encourages businesses to maintain their CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system regularly. It's about preventing data decay, ensuring everything is up to date, and avoiding the digital equivalent of a toothache.
  2. Customization and Fit:Dentistry: Not every mouth is the same. Dentists customize treatments, from braces to crowns, to fit the individual's needs.Salesforce: It's highly customizable. Businesses can tailor Salesforce to their specific workflows, industries, and needs, much like how a dentist tailors a treatment plan.
  3. Pain Management:Dentistry: Sometimes, dental procedures can be uncomfortable, but dentists use anesthetics to manage pain.Salesforce: Implementing or changing CRM systems can be painful for users. Salesforce tries to manage this "pain" through user-friendly interfaces, training, and support to ease the transition.
  4. Diagnostics and Solutions:Dentistry: Dentists use X-rays and other tools to diagnose issues before they become visible to the naked eye.Salesforce: It provides analytics and reporting tools to diagnose business issues or opportunities that might not be immediately apparent, helping companies to address them proactively.
  5. Long-Term Health:Dentistry: Oral health impacts overall health. Regular dental care is about ensuring long-term health.Salesforce: Proper CRM management leads to better customer relationships, which in turn, impacts the long-term health of a business.
  6. Specialization:Dentistry: There are general dentists and then specialists like orthodontists or oral surgeons.Salesforce: While there's the general platform, there are also specialized applications for different industries like healthcare, finance, or manufacturing, each with its own set of tools and features.
  7. The Importance of Regular Visits:Dentistry: You're supposed to see your dentist every six months.Salesforce: Regular updates, training sessions, and system checks are crucial to keep everything running smoothly.
  8. Technology Integration:Dentistry: Modern dentistry uses advanced technology like lasers, digital X-rays, and 3D printing.Salesforce: Integrates with a plethora of other business tools, apps, and platforms, enhancing its functionality much like how tech has enhanced dental procedures.
  9. Some procedural specifications:

  • Scaling and polishing similar to data cleansing
  • Flows and other automations are like? a course of medication which when allowed to run derives outcomes similar to relieving conditions like painful ulcers, cheek bites and dry and sore mouth to name a few.
  • If the toothache were due to deep cavities involving the pulp bring in Apex ,LWC and all the code heavy armour that would be better suited for the heavy lifting in this case quite similar to an RCT
  • Cosmetic veneers, smile design remind me of the UX suite linked with Salesforce.
  • Oral Cancers in the world of Salesforce would be similar to websites being down in peak business hours and the surgical excision would be similar to swarming in on it and bringing it back to life.

So, while one keeps your teeth in check and the other keeps your business in check, both Salesforce and dentistry are about maintaining health, customizing care, managing pain, and using technology for better outcomes. It's like they're distant cousins in the vast family of professions that keep things running smoothly, whether it's your smile or your sales.
