Dentistry is Different, Including Hiring

The past few months has altered the practice of dentistry as we once knew it, causing us all to take additional measures with how we manage and treat our patients as well as how we work with each other. Despite our acute awareness regarding sterilization techniques, infection control and added protection, we are now adding even more safeguards, protocols, and systems to increase the level of responsibilities required to manage our operation post Covid-19.

I wonder how many of you realize the increased measures and different approach we now need to consider when it comes to hiring, integrating, and maintaining new team members as well as current ones.

The methods applied in the past will no longer work as it did in the past. Simply posting on social media to attract interest with “Great Job in a Great Practice” is not going to make it today. Everyone needs to realize that our job to recruit has become more involved than simply sending out a “flare”. There is more work involved when it comes to not only locating viable job candidates, but I suggest some additional steps be taken when it comes to on-boarding them as well.

So, if you are currently seeking new team members, keep in mind that what worked pre-Covid 19 will unfortunately not work in today’s climate.

Go into it with a system. It takes discipline and patience and lots of creativity. And once you locate a strong candidate and have properly vetted them, do not wait too long to offer them the position. Offer it in writing and make it as comprehensive as possible.

Don’t be discouraged, be smart and thorough, and be well prepared before you begin the process. Like minds do attract, so "represent" what you are hoping to get in return.
