Demystifying Artificial Intelligence and Its History

Demystifying Artificial Intelligence and Its History

Although it’s among the most advanced technologies of the era, opinions are still divided regarding AI. On the one hand, people see it as an innovative approach to resolve problems, boost productivity, and improve quality of life.

But on the other hand, AI is often feared. It has been demonized, with gloomy predictions of machines taking over human jobs and, depending on who you ask, even the world.

So, is any of this true?

The truth is that both of these scenarios are quite unlikely to unravel soon.

The term “artificial intelligence” describes a broad scope of technology and software, with the line between the use of intelligence versus following a human-like algorithm often blurred.

Despite the general belief, AI isn’t easily put into the context of “good” or “bad.” It is simply a tool, a useful system that people use with their own intents and purposes.

Machine learning is often confused with AI, and it’s often used as a way to delegate mundane tasks to machines. Despite the controversy surrounding these technologies, they are reported to increase workplace productivity by 40%.

To clarify, AI represents different technologies that can react and think like humans. They respond to using language that can be understood.

While many claim to be using AI, experts in the field say that, so far, no AI machines have been created. Once they are, they’ll be able to show cognitive intelligence on a human level and also have flexibility and competence with some level of consciousness.

Regardless of the fact that there still aren’t true AI technologies out there, there are various devices and software that fall under the umbrella of AI. Robots and chatbots are only a couple of obvious examples.

What do you think of AI development so far? Let me know!

Thanks for sharing such a pertinent post Achille. It is so important to get a holistic view of AI, coz misunderstanding AI can lead people to?both overestimate its value and underestimate its impact!
