For many, AI still feels like a distant, almost intimidating force—something reserved for big tech companies, advanced developers, or researchers in lab coats.

It’s easy to see why. The narrative around AI is often filled with fear—stories about job displacement, automation replacing human work, and a future where machines take the lead. But the reality? AI isn’t a threat or an obstacle. It’s a force multiplier, a tool that expands our capabilities rather than replaces them. And thanks to the rapid democratization of AI, this technology is now more accessible than ever.

We’re seeing a shift where AI isn’t just improving existing businesses—it’s creating entirely new ways to start and scale them. The days when you needed deep technical expertise, massive funding, or a team of engineers to build something innovative are fading fast. AI-powered platforms, no-code development tools, and even AI-assisted coding environments have leveled the playing field, allowing individuals—regardless of their background—to turn ideas into reality without the traditional barriers.

No More Gatekeepers

Not long ago, developing software meant one of three things: you hired an expensive developer, you spent months (or years) learning to code yourself, or you settled for an off-the-shelf solution that didn’t quite fit your needs. Today, that equation has changed.

Now, low-code or no-code platforms like Lovable and Bubble and AI-powered code editors like Cursor act as on-demand dev teams, giving people with minimal technical ability the power to build fully functional applications. With these emerging technologies acting as real-time assistants, writing and debugging code on the fly, the skill gap between developers and non-developers is closing fast.

But AI’s impact extends far beyond product creation—it’s also changing how we acquire knowledge. AI chatbots are rapidly replacing legacy search engines. According to a U.S. survey from December 2024, as many as 27% of internet users —?myself included —?are leveraging AI bots in lieu of conventional search tools (TechRadar.com). Instead of sifting through endless search results or watching hours of tutorial videos, AI-powered research tools can summarize industry trends, explain complex topics, and generate detailed insights in seconds. Information isn’t just easier to find—it’s faster to refine, analyze, and apply than ever before.

The Rise of the One-Person Startup

This accessibility has given rise to something we’ve never seen at this scale before: the one-person startup. While solopreneurs have always existed, the sheer amount of work an individual contributor can create today is totally new.

With AI assisting in product development, research, marketing, and even customer service, a single individual can now do the work of an entire team. Where it once required a company of 10, 20, or even 100 people to build and launch a product, these revolutionary tools now allow solo founders to scale efficiently and with far fewer resources.

A Tool, Not a Crutch

One of AI’s most underappreciated powers is its ability to accelerate human learning. It should be seen as a way to pour fuel on whatever it is you do. AI shouldn’t represent our future overlords here to take over —?although they very well could be that —?rather, these tools are the technological equivalent of having superpowers.

Whether you’re learning to code, improving your writing, mastering design, or even launching a business, AI-powered technologies can act as real-time tutors, assistants, and problem-solvers all in one. It doesn’t replace human expertise—it enhances it, shortening learning curves and removing roadblocks that once would have stopped a great idea in its tracks.

What does that mean in practice? It means a graphic designer can learn front-end development with hands-on, AI-assisted coding. It means a startup founder can get personalized sales training from an AI coach. It means anyone with ambition can level up faster than ever before!

A Reimagined Approach to Product Creation

With AI breaking down barriers, product creation no longer follows the traditional mold.

Instead of requiring a full-scale engineering team, a venture-backed runway, and months of iteration, today’s founders can test, refine, and launch at lightning speed. The old idea of an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) is evolving into something new—where founders can refine concepts, automate workflows, and generate solutions before a single human hire is made.

It’s not just about reducing costs—it’s about removing friction, making it easier than ever to bring an idea to life.

These shifts aren’t just theoretical—they’re happening right now. And few people have a better understanding of what’s coming next than EGGS! The Podcast two-time alumni, Ryan Carson .

As a seasoned entrepreneur, tech founder, and AI leader at Intel, Ryan has spent years at the forefront of innovation, education, and business creation. From founding Treehouse, one of the first online coding schools, to his latest work helping Intel build a global AI developer community, he has a deep understanding of how AI is reshaping entrepreneurship.

In this conversation, Ryan shares how AI is leveling the playing field, enabling solo startups, and accelerating the way we learn new skills. He also offers practical, real-world insights into how founders—whether first-timers or seasoned entrepreneurs—can leverage AI to build the future.

Let’s dive into Ryan’s insights on how AI is shaping the next generation of entrepreneurs—and why those who embrace it will be the ones leading the way.

Leveraging AI for Innovation and Growth

Throughout our conversation, Ryan Carson shared invaluable insights on how AI is reshaping the entrepreneurial landscape. Whether you’re an aspiring founder, a developer, or simply someone looking to stay ahead in a rapidly changing world, these key takeaways highlight practical ways to embrace AI as a tool for learning, building, and scaling. Here are some of the most impactful lessons from our discussion.

On using AI as a personal tutor:

“If you’re brand new to coding, you can just tell ChatGPT or Claude, ‘I know nothing, teach me like I’m ten years old,’ and it will walk you through every step—debugging, explaining, and giving you actionable examples.”

The insight: You don’t need to know everything—or even all that much—to start learning. Embrace AI as your 24/7 personal tutor. If you’re stuck or intimidated, literally tell it that you’re a novice. AI tools will guide you step by step, providing customized support until you understand and can apply what you’re learning.

On building your first AI-powered product:

“We have truly entered a new era. It’s absolutely possible to start a company yourself now—AI will augment your skills, whether that’s coding, design, or even marketing.”

The insight:?Stop waiting for perfect conditions or mastering every skill. Start building now. Use AI to fill gaps in your coding, design, or marketing skills. Leverage tools like no-code platforms or code assistants to rapidly build and test your idea. This reduces risk and allows you to iterate quickly—even without prior development experience!?

Why you should build, not just learn:

“Instead of trying to get that entry-level developer job, you might as well skip straight to shipping a product. Even if it fails, you’ll have something real to show—and that experience can land you better opportunities.”

The insight: Don’t learn for the sake of learning. Instead, aim to create tangible outcomes. Build and ship a small product—even if it’s just a prototype. This hands-on approach will provide real-world experience and a portfolio piece that differentiates you in future job interviews or business opportunities.

Start with the user experience:

“Always begin with the UI. Sketch out how you want people to interact with your product, then work backward to the code. That user-first approach keeps you laser-focused on solving the real problem.”

The insight: Before writing a single line of code, clarify exactly how users will interact with your product. Sketch it out visually, prototype it using simple tools, or simply assemble a comprehensive list of requirements. By focusing on user needs first, you ensure your product solves genuine pain points rather than just chasing technology for technology’s sake.

In the cloud or on your desk:

“People don’t realize you can run AI locally without sharing your data in the cloud. That means if you have private info, you can keep it on your personal device and still tap into big-model intelligence.”

The insight:?To maintain data privacy, use local AI models. Download and run open-source AI models directly on your device. This approach allows you to utilize powerful AI capabilities without exposing sensitive or proprietary information to the cloud, ideal for privacy-conscious projects.

Rethinking success in business:

“Focus on building a great, sustainable business that solves a real problem. If it covers your costs and changes lives—even in a small way—that’s already a huge win.”

The insight: Define your success by impact and sustainability—not by growth alone. Focus on building a stable, profitable business that solves real problems for real people. Don’t chase unicorn status. If your business provides value, covers costs, and positively impacts others, you’ve already achieved meaningful success.

About acquisitions and funding:

“Raising venture capital can push you to scale too fast. There’s no shame in bootstrapping a profitable, meaningful business and ignoring all that ‘unicorn’ hype.”

The insight: Approach venture capital cautiously. Bootstrapping allows you to grow at your own pace, maintain control, and prioritize long-term stability over short-term growth. Resist the pressure to scale prematurely, and remember: building a solid, profitable business on your own terms is an admirable and viable path.

How AI levels everyone up:

“We’re seeing AI give people that ‘power tool moment.’ You’re no longer held back by menial tasks or knowledge gaps. Now, you can focus on bigger, more creative challenges.”

The insight: Embrace AI as a “power tool” that eliminates repetitive tasks and bridges knowledge gaps. Use it to tackle mundane work, freeing you up for strategic thinking, creativity, and innovation. Focus your energy on higher-level challenges that leverage human strengths, making you more efficient and impactful.

Empowering the next generation of founders:

“I want everyone to realize they can do this. Whether you’re 17 or 70, AI is out there waiting for you to ask, ‘Help me learn this skill and solve this problem.’ That’s what democratization is all about.”

The insight: Believe in your ability to build, innovate, and solve problems—no matter your age or experience level. Proactively seek out AI tools and resources that help you learn new skills and overcome obstacles quickly. Democratization means anyone can innovate. Start by asking AI simple questions and grow your capabilities from there.

Closing Thoughts

It’s hard not to get excited about the doors flinging wide open, thanks to AI. Whether you’re a freelance coder, a tech-savvy parent, or an aspiring founder with zero experience, the future favors those who embrace these new tools and use them to bring meaningful ideas to life. As Ryan suggests, it’s a matter of moving fast on real problems—letting AI smooth out the rough edges and accelerate your learning curve.

I hope Ryan’s insights spark some creativity and encourage you to pursue that next big idea—no matter how wild it might seem. If the future truly involves each of us having a personal AI “sous chef,” then there’s never been a better time to turn your entrepreneurial dreams into reality. Get cooking!

Thanks for reading. —R

Also, I don’t know if anyone will ask for this, but here is my personal AI stack. It grows and evolves as new tools and features emerge. It’s a wild time, and platforms are improving daily and weekly. Try to keep up!

  • Chat GPT:?Use mostly as a research tool, but I have used it for everything from helping my kids learn math to crafting an?amazing?gluten-free, cheese-free lasagna recipe to having literal, real-time conversations with their amazing chat experience as a way to stay awake on a long drive.
  • Claude AI:?For a while, I really loved Claude, as it seemed to be a superior coder to its contemporaries, like Chat GPT. However, in recent updates, the gap has narrowed, and I’ve actually just abandoned Claude (kind of—more on this below) for another tool.?
  • Perplexity AI: I just made the jump to Perplexity for its real-time, internet-based, deep research abilities. It leverages a range of AI tools all in one platform, and it can employ different models automatically based on what you’re trying to do. A pro account with Perplexity includes Sonar, their proprietary model, in addition to GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet (see, still kind of using Claude), Grok-2, and Gemini 2.0 Flash. With this tool, you kind of get an all-in-one solution, but I’ll admit I’m struggling to get the output I want from their platform just yet, so I’ll give it a little more time before making a ruling, thumbs up or down.
  • Grok AI:?This is probably my least-used tool, so I don’t have much to report. However, at the time of this writing, they just rolled out Grok 3, which sounds promising. I’ll have to report back.?
  • Midjourney: For me, this platform is still hands down the best at image generation. I’ve tried many other models like Open AI’s DALL-E, Playground v3, Flux.1, Grok, and even a locally hosted tool, but I rarely get what I’m looking for from any of them. For me, it’s Midjourney all day.
  • Lovable: I am kind of new to this tool, having only worked in it for a week or two at this point, but with no real development experience, I have been able to use their AI prompting to create two products, start to finish including authentication flows, backend database integration, and API calls. Pretty wow! Now, it’s not without its flaws, and I’ve found that the more complex the project, the more it starts to make mistakes or cause redundant errors. But if this is Lovable’s opening salvo, I can’t wait to see what comes in the near future!
  • Cursor: This is an AI-powered coding tool, but I have found, as a non-coder, that this platform is really good at what it does and has given me a big head, grossly exaggerating my technical prowess. With natural language prompting —?and a connection to my Lovable projects via GitHub?—?I have been able to overcome nearly every issue where Lovable left me hanging. And the beautiful thing is that because of the GitHub relationship I can make changes to Lovable files in Cursor, then push them back into Lovable and keep going. Between these two tools, I have been able to create and sell two web apps in a week's time — AGAIN, as a NON-CODER! It’s just crazy.

Disclaimer:?I am not paid; in fact, I pay myself for all of the tools mentioned above. I am not making recommendations for or against any of these items, but I encourage you to explore any or all and find a stack that works for you.
