Was Democracy Working for All People?

Was Democracy Working for All People?

To all, a general and very serious inquiry - and before I share this article, I will say firmly that I do not agree with how things are unraveling right now, and I do not condone the harm being done to humans right now.

But unraveling they are, nonetheless. Here's my question - had democracy been working, for let's say, the past 30 years? And when we say democracy, was it simply the right to vote fairly and have a balanced approach to government and laws? I ask this because I have felt that since the 90's, well, and earlier - frankly, much earlier...we've been in this 2 party system in which one party gets into federal government and spends a lot of time during their term, undoing what the last one did - to where now we see executive orders being handed down like candy, in a flurry, literally orchestrated with the goal to overwhelm the people, the press, and the world.

So seriously, what's the point of this polarized 2 party system? What is democracy anymore, what does that mean? What if (and I'm going to restate this throughout, that I don't agree with the how, but) it's supposed to all be torn down...this administration has stated time and time again that the goal is to level the economy - and - what if that has to happen to actually move into a time that we can create a brand new system that is not rooted in white supremacy, patriarchy, colonialism, and capitalism? (and please note that I do not think this is the administration to create the new, but is the administration to level all the systems that have ever been built), and it's not the way I voted but again here we are.

Since the constitution was written - from the lens of patriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, and capitalism - there have been amendments, programs, initiatives, well intentioned inclusive efforts simply placed on top of these systems - to the point that we're now here, devastated that these incredible programs are being erased from history - but they were always placed on top of the systems, rather than being placed within to actually dismantle inequities from the inside.

Again, I don't agree with the "how", but, what if we were to surrender to a state of "let them" - let them do the heavy lifting, let them do the dismantling, let them implode, let the clash of the titans come to a head (because it will because remember, the power is everything, and one will become too powerful and there will be a coup within the coup). Let them.

This is where "we" hold the line and the focus on what we want and what we stand for every single day so that when there are nothing around us but ashes, the phoenix (us) rises.

I have found a peace within me that is standing flat footed in who I am and what I'm here to do - there is a fight, on every level, and we have the free will (as of right now) to fight back in any way we can. My fight looks different from day to day - and make no mistake, the vibe of "let them" that gives me peace in no way doesn't mean I'm not fighting...
