Democracy at the Crossroads
Democracy at the Crossroads/20 January 2022/Lawrence S. DiCara
????????????January 6th has come and gone, as has the one- year anniversary of Joe Biden’s inauguration.?Thankfully, no major insurrection has occurred in this time period.?
As detailed the Age of Acrimony, ours is a situation not unlike that dark period between the Civil War and the Age of Theodore Roosevelt when the divisions were great as they are today, when elections were as close as they have been of late, where people were partisan and, in many cases, engaged in armed combat at polling places and elsewhere.?At least we haven’t gone that far, yet. Sadly, some among us do not accept that there is nothing as unamerican as desecrating the flag by using it as a battering ram to inflict harm upon those in uniform and to trash the Capitol
Reports now confirm that conversations between the President and Fox News commentators and his senior staff sought to disrupt the counting of votes a bit more than a year ago.?That may be the most undemocratic thing I have ever heard of!?Is our democracy no longer important even to those who have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution?
All of us need to have a renewed appreciation of our Democracy and to listen to words which we have recited since childhood: I Pledge Allegiance to the flag and to the republic for which it stands.
?
Wishing whomever looks at this only good health and success.
3 年Larry , as true and heartfelt as your message is , I do not think the people that either feel trump won , or believe the 6th was a positive day for America or simply feel they are the defenders of the constitution, these folks will never work with the other side , they will never listen to your logic or vision. You expect to much of a base of people who are filled with anger , hatred and limited knowledge of the new world of today
