Dementia Wellbeing - Later Stages

Dementia Wellbeing - Later Stages

Dementia Wellbeing is at the heart of Happy Days, helping care teams enrich social and sensory care for people living with dementia.?

Research shows that people living with later stages?of dementia may have less contact with other?people beyond personal care, eating and drinking.?People with advanced dementia often find it difficult?to communicate and interact with other people;?may not be able to engage in group activities?and spend more time alone in their rooms.

Engaging people living with later stages of dementia via?their senses, especially by the power of?a?loving touch may help to enrich quality of life.?Sensory activities may also help to improve end-of-life care for people?living with advanced dementia.

Tips for residential care and dementia homes: Find a spare room - Create an area of calm - Add soft lighting and sensory lamps [ie Lava Lamps] in soft colours - Play some therapeutic sounds ie Birdsong, Waterfalls or soft relaxing music. Add lavender diffusers to help relaxation. Provide hand massage / brush hair / use soft brushes for stoking / small soft rollers for forehead and arms. Add soft tactile items to engage with. [Always follow your house guidelines and training techniques].

Engaging in positive interactions through sensory?care may also help care teams and families connect more closely with their loved ones and?the people they care for.

Don't waste time sourcing materials - Sensory Care Packs can be created for your Happy Days care sessions to suit your residents, space, colour schemes and of course, budget.

Late stages are easily overlooked or a secondhand thought in care communities. I love this kit because it provides comfort and exploration of senses. Kudos!
