DELTA FORCE IS NOT A VIGILANTE GROUP!!!

On my way to class today, I read with confusion and opacity, the main caption on the front page of the daily graphic which pronounced that, “IGP DECLARES WAR AGAINST VIGILANTE GROUPS”.As at this moment, I am still in darkness as to whether it was the writer of that segment of the DAILY GRAPHIC who ascribed the DELTA FORCES as a vigilante group owing to political influences or that was the exact decrees of the IGP.

The basis of my confusion can be attributed to the fact that I have over the years seen, realize and appreciated the precise characterization that differentiate vigilante groups from others like rebels, protesters, mutineers and agitators among others.This is a brief piece regarding the origination of the word VIGILANTE.

Vigilante entered the English in the 19th century, borrowed from the Spanish word of the same spelling which meant “WATCHMAN, GUARD” in that language. The Spanish word can be traced back to the Latin word, “VIGILARE” meaning to “keep awake”. The earliest use of the word in English referred to a member of a vigilance committee, a committee that was established to suppress and punish crime summarily as when the processes of law appear inadequate, (Mariam-Webster Dictionary) https:// www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vigilante.

The Delta force as we know has been characterized with instigating commotion and rebellion against constitutional pronouncements in recent times which does coincide the connotation of a VIGILANTE GROUP . I attribute the DELTA FORCE to a rebel group owing to the fact that the members of this group were the same political mob who protested the activities of the then NDC regime as at last year. Their illegitimate activities were politically motivated.

The constitution of Ghana gives the President the sole authority to nominate whoever he deems fit to take up a position. Therefore the decision of the said DELTA FORCE to dissenting the appointment of the Ashanti Regional Security Co-coordinator made by the His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo can basically be ascribed as rebellious and would only create an impression that the president is not making sound and commendable decisions. A thorough reflection on the above exposé reveals the acclaimed DELTA FORCE is appropriately a REBEL group and not a VIGILANTE group.

Once again, my piece isn’t centered on entirely condemning the act of this GROUP but to attribute the recent happenings to the acts of luring and the political trickeries that has been adopted by political parties to make sure that they gain or maintain political power by all available means.

These jobless and active young men are made to do all the donkey works .i.e. the planned demonstrations, rallies and the underground works during campaign seasons and are consequently made to believe that they would be given the chance to conduct themselves in any way that they deem right so far as their political party wins power.

This act of misrepresentation and inducement has become an incentive for these young men to invest all their time and energy in vigorously campaigning for the party. What is therefore expected from such an exuberated mob?                                                                                                          I however respect the take of the president regarding this imperative issue. Not all Ghanaians and party faithful would welcome his decision but trust me, in life, you don’t have to always get the masses by your side if you wish to achieve a selfless goal.

In summary, the prime objective of this piece is to correct stakeholders and all Ghanaians regarding the proven fact that DELTA FORCE IS A REBEL GROUP AND NOT A VIGILANTE GROUP. LONG LIVE THE RULE OF LAW, LONG LIVE TRNQUILITY AND LONG LEAVE GHANA!!!!!
