Delta B767 severely damaged by hail

??On 24th July 2023, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 performing a flight from Milan Malpensa to New York JFK encountered severe turbulence and hail climbing out of Malpensa's runway 35R.

??Due to the violence of the hailstorm, the crew had to stop climb at FL230. They declared an emergency and requested to divert to Rome Fiumicino airport, where the aircraft finally landed on runway 16R, around 65 minutes after departure.

??No injuries were reported, but the aircraft sustained severe damage, including punctures of the right hand wing, punctures of both engine spinners, damage to the engines' fan blades, punctured radome, a cracked windshield and dents along the leading edges of the wings. Fortunately, no other aircraft departing from Milan were reported to be affected by the hailstorm that day.
