Delta Air Lines Tightens Access to Sky Club Lounges

Delta Air Lines Tightens Access to Sky Club Lounges

In response to overcrowding issues, Delta Air Lines is implementing significant changes to its Sky Club airport lounges. Here's what you need to know:

Capping access for American Express cardholders

Starting February 1, 2025, Delta Air Lines will cap the number of entries to its Sky Clubs for holders of the American Express Platinum Card and the Delta Reserve American Express Card. Platinum cardholders will be granted six annual visits, while Delta Reserve cardholders will enjoy up to ten visits per year. These changes aim to address overcrowding concerns and enhance the lounge experience for eligible travelers.

Exclusion of basic economy ticket holders

Effective January 1, 2024, passengers holding basic economy tickets will no longer have access to Delta's lounges, irrespective of their premium credit card status. This decision reinforces Delta's commitment to preserving the exclusivity of its lounges for passengers with higher-tier tickets and dedicated cardholders.

The impact on American Express Platinum cardholders

For many, the American Express Platinum Card's allure has been its array of travel perks, including complimentary access to Delta's Sky Clubs. However, with these new restrictions, the card's appeal may be reevaluated. The lounge access has long been a compelling reason to justify the card's annual fee.

Alternative lounge options

While these changes affect Delta's Sky Clubs, American Express cardholders can still enjoy access to the 15 Centurion-branded airport lounges operated by American Express. Check out these other credit cards that offer great travel perks including lounge access.?
