Deloitte Top 250 Global Retailers

I am proud to see Majid Al Futtaim once more included among the world’s 50 largest global retailers, in Deloitte’s Global Powers of Retailing 2021 report. There’s some vital information in this report, which looks at retail performance across geographies and product sectors as well as the outlook for the future.

Three (of many) interesting takeaways:

1. The power of emerging markets: ?Of the 12 retailers who joined the Top 250 in FY2019 (year ending 30 June 2020), nine are in Asia.

2. The potential in our region: The nine retailers included from Africa and the Middle East are more international than any other region. Our region also recorded the highest five year (FY2014-2019) CAGR at 9.3 per cent, nearly double the Top 250 composite growth.

3. The Fastest 50 companies in the list – those with the highest CAGR in retail revenue – are there for reasons including ecommerce, rapid organic store expansion, and varied efforts to build a strong consumer base including overnight and same-day deliveries.

I’ve shared many times how we have learned from this tumultuous year, and how much our advance planning and tightening measures helped us weather the storm. Most of the world has yet to see the final outcome as consumer mobility, online activity, discretionary spending, closures, confidence and supply chain resilience fluctuate and new technologies emerge.

In a landscape that’s so evolving, where new offers come online, where new realities emerge very fast and maybe die very fast, what is going to be defining for us at Majid Al Futtaim is the strength of our brands and the brand equity that we have in the minds and hearts of our customers.
