Opinion & Insights: Deloitte Speaks to Millenials & Gen-Z on DEIB & ESG and the Future of the Workplace

I recently spoke about the increase of diverse talent making employment decisions based on a company's DEIB, ESG & Social Impact and the steps leaders should consider to begin or reinforce future-proofing the workplace.

This week, Elizabeth Faber Global Chief People & Purpose Officer at 德勤 released the 13th edition of their Gen Z and Millennial Survey. The survey which looks at living and working with purpose in a transforming world, connected with nearly 23,000 respondents across 44 countries to track their experiences and expectations at work and in the world more broadly.

3 key areas that stood out based on the insights shared in the last edition:

  1. "Environmental sustainability drives career decisions and consumer behaviours. This is reflected in Gen Zs’ and millennials’ career decisions and their consumer behaviours. Two in 10 Gen Zs and millennials have already changed jobs or industries to better align their work with their environmental values, with another quarter of both cohorts planning to do so in the future."
  2. "Purpose influences workplace satisfaction. The majority of Gen Zs (86%) and millennials (89%) say having a sense of purpose is important to their overall job satisfaction and well-being. And these generations are increasingly willing to reject assignments or employers who don’t align with their values. Three-quarters of Gen Zs and millennials (75%) say that an organization’s community engagement and societal impact is an important factor when considering a potential employer."
  3. "Work/life balance and flexibility remain paramount. Gen Zs and millennials continue to value flexibility in where and when they work, and this drive for flexibility continues to increase the popularity of less traditional employment models, including part-time roles, job-sharing, and side gigs."

The report is fascinating as it reflects the 360 conversations being had in the workplace. We must see the challenges and fears as the opportunity to innovate ideas for solutions we as leaders need to be thinking about to future-proof the workplace and the organisations we lead.

Check out the report here and let me know your thoughts on the above.

Happy Friday :)
