Dell Technologies World, the aftermath

One week has passed since DTW and a few tech wagons jolted by some events and announcements that happened there, so here are my thoughts about it.

1. Finally, and after decades, the time is now for AI, parallelism is everywhere coming down to more affordable hardware with the clear promise of changing the landscape. Soon the humongous supercomputers will be reduced to a few racks allowing many more people to use fancy algorithms in their business

2. What happened to Big Data?

If you think that AI buzz has dimmed the relevance of Big Data, don't worry !!! Big Data is there as important as ever. Growing bigger to support IoT and at the same time fueling the deep learning momentum.

3. Cloud is not a place !!

For years, many have thought of the Cloud as an ethereal purgatory where only some daring IT managers sent their data, but today it looks like the mindset has changed and any respectable vendor, company, expert, etc understand that Cloud is a way to consume instead. The message came from US and it was received loud and clear!

4. The Journey to the edge of the world.

Just like in Nordic myths, the edge of the world is a mysterious place full of monsters, a place where only the real brave dare going. Today IoT is pushing the boundaries and kicking us out of our comfy data centers in a mission to explore and conquer the edge. Only the ones with the vision and the strength will succeed in the task.

5. Math will not fix the world... Yet.

Blockchains are still an illusion. Other than really optimistic gurus with faith in the equality that could be achieved by using them, the technology itself has to overcome legal, conceptual, technical, reputability and many other challenges to thrive. We will have to wait years maybe decades to see the mirage becoming a reality.

6. Future proofing the future.

Punching in a new interface doesn't auto magically make things faster. You need to work at the architecture level. And that is exactly what PowerMax is, a design well ahead of his time, a glance at what storage will look like in 3 or 4 years but is here today live and in full color !!!

With this announcement some will remain HoPeless, some will be PUREly and utterly dismissed and many more will remain far away watching the tail of the railway that leave them behind.

Vision, execution and leadership not only the key values exhibited during the event but also the cornerstones for the company's success in the fastest changing and most challenging market.
