Hi everyone!

I'm Erin Gaffey from the Solution Integration team at Canada Post. Following up on our discussion about volumetric weight, let’s talk about packaging. After identifying some appropriate sizes of boxes, bags, or envelopes needed for your products in various quantities and combinations, it's important to optimize your packaging tactic. To reduce the variety of packaging sizes needed, consider consolidating into fewer box sizes. If you have two boxes of similar size, calculate their volumetric weight and pick the cheaper option. Reducing the number of different box sizes, allows you to buy in bulk!

Keep in mind, you do not want to ship empty space or increase the need for fillers (bubble wrap or paper). Additionally, remember to measure the external dimensions of the box for accurate volumetric weight calculations. The dimensions provided on the box typically refer to the interior measurements, so you should assemble the box and measure the widest sections, mainly where the tape is applied.

Reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to figure out the volumetric weight of your packaging. For more in-depth information, please visit our Canada Post blog Your guide to packaging

Looking forward to hearing from you!
