Delivering Promises + Avoiding Burnout

Delivering Promises + Avoiding Burnout

A THOUGHT FROM JENNIFER

It’s only a few weeks into 2025, and I’m already hearing a common concern from nonprofit leaders: “How can we deliver our promises without burning out our teams?” With budgets tighter than last year, this question seems especially urgent.

Nonprofits face unique challenges: limited funding, understaffing, and the emotional toll of working with people in need. Add to this the shifting priorities, unclear roles, and the culture of “wearing many hats”—all compounded by a passionate drive to serve.

But, operating in this reality doesn’t have to feel chaotic.

That’s where operational strategy comes in. When aligned with your strategic plan, it clarifies exactly how you’ll accomplish your goals, what resources you’ll need, and how you’ll adapt when things don’t go as planned.

Consider these essential questions: ?

  • Does your strategic plan realistically match your team size and funding?
  • Do your employees have clear expectations and adequate resources?
  • Have you built trust and transparency with your Board to adjust priorities when needed?
  • Are you conducting quarterly reviews to realign priorities throughout the year?
  • Do you have a process for evaluating new opportunities against existing commitments and resources?

When you can answer “yes” to these questions, you’ll navigate 2025 with greater confidence, saving time and money as you adapt to whatever the year brings.

On the journey with you,

Jennifer Hamel, PMP

A RESOURCE WE LOVE

Seamless.AI: A Must-Have for Connecting with Businesses

By Brandon Primeaux, MBA, PMP

As an “accidental” business developer, I needed a way to reach out to businesses and share Way Forth’s project management services without feeling overwhelmed. Seamless.AI made it easy. Now, I can quickly search for businesses by name, type, or specialty and find the key decision-makers I need to connect with.

The best part? The Google extension! It gives me instant access to contact details for any website I visit. If I’m interested in a company, I can learn about it and find the right person to reach out to in no time.

Seamless.AI helps me save time and keeps things simple, so I can focus on building great relationships. It’s become my go-to resource for connecting with potential partners, and I honestly can’t imagine working without it!

BRAIN BREAK

A System For Stress-Free Lunches

By Carolyn Wildermuth , Project Coordinator

Tired of the daily "What's for lunch?" dilemma? Here's a Brain Break that provides a refreshing mental escape from work while setting you up for a week of stress-free meals.

Step 1: Jot down your top 10 favorite homemade lunch and dinner meals. Think about dishes you genuinely enjoy preparing and eating.

Step 2: Select 2-3 meals from your list to create next week's lunch and dinner menu. (??Pro tip: I use dinner leftovers for lunch to simplify meal planning. I also schedule an occasional fast food day to keep things interesting.)

Step 3: Create your shopping list based on your selected meals. (Don't worry if you need to finish this after work—even a rough draft helps!)

All that's left is grocery shopping and meal preparation. The payoff? I've been using this system myself, and it's been truly life-changing. You'll save money, make healthier food choices, and have meals ready the moment hunger strikes.

Great questions for leaders to sit with. This is a good compass needle! Things get lost in the shuffle of life and the constant flux of a year! It's definitely easy for the "DOING" to overtake the actual "NEEDS" of the organization. Reviews are like milestones and markers to keep the team guided.

These are great questions! Regular reviews of priorities certainly help to ensure that the urgent doesn't overcome the important.
