Delivering long-term success

Delivering long-term success

This month is monumental for Alvotech, the biosimilars company I founded nearly a decade ago, is going public and trading on Nasdaq. It has been the journey of a lifetime, and as we reach this goal, I want to take a moment and reflect on what it takes to start with an idea – and with dedication, achieving this milestone, entering the public markets with an enterprise value of approximately $2.25 billion. In other words, how did we build this value and continue to maintain it long term?

It has been the journey of a lifetime, and as we reach this goal, I want to take a moment and reflect on what it takes to start with an idea – and with dedication, achieving this milestone, entering the public markets with an enterprise value of approximately $2.25 billion. In other words, how did we build this value and continue to maintain it long-term?

It is my personal belief that our success rests on two pillars: a great team and a shared vision.

My vision had been clear from the start, and I have been fortunate while building my teams, that they share my vision: we strive to make medicine accessible to every patient in need. From insulin to vaccines, biosimilar medicines are transforming the way diseases are treated and improving people’s lives, despite financial means. We want everyone to be able to benefit from our work. We have created a company focused on developing and manufacturing high-quality, cost-competitive biosimilars, something we are sure will continue to be a sought-after product in all markets worldwide.

My personal sense of purpose was critical when building a foundation for success but having a purpose-driven business inevitably contributed to our growth, and scalability and drove us to seek sustainable processes – when everyone knows where they are going and why even the most ambitious long-term goals become achievable.

The other essential aspect of success is building the right team. The pharma industry is a team sport. Alvotech’s success relies on the work of hundreds of employees, from the brilliant minds in our R&D department to our ingenious HR team. Our purpose and accomplishments have attracted the elite in the industry, talent attracts talent. I find myself to be fortunate and am surrounded by an exceptional leadership team, their world-class expertise, and incredible experience from working with leading brands from around the world. These are the people that challenge me, inspire me every day, and help drive our mission forward.

Once you have a clear vision and the team on which to embark on your journey, the workplace culture is what will make them stay. Finding ways so that every member feels seen and heard is crucial, in order to harness the power of the team while maintaining a competitive edge. Those leading teams often deal with some daunting tasks, with vast communication, transparent processes, and support from every level of the organization, weathering stormy seas is how we make skilled sailors. The resilience of the pharma industry has been challenged and proven time and time again as they continued delivering for patients through the Covid crisis.

Alvotech continues to grow, always looking for ways to optimize and streamline its daily operations – we never stop learning and strive to be active listeners. As we enter this incredibly exciting new chapter as a public company, we will have even greater reach and resources to dedicate to our work. I am confident that the future is great for Alvotech, as we have proven over the past ten years - we have what matters most – a clear vision and the people that believe in it, the people that are committed to making it work. ?
