Delineating Field of Social Work in India

In the social sciences discipline, social work is a research and practice-based field. The field encompassed various areas of engagement and intervention. These areas are based on the principles of Human Rights and Social Justice. Social justice deals with social goods. Social goods are Non-Excludability (Cannot exclude anyone from benefiting, e.g., clean air) and Non-Rivalry (Use by one person doesn't reduce availability for others, e.g., public roads). However, some of the goods and services are excludable and rival. Social workers intervene to ensure the fair distribution of social goods and social justice among various population groups.
