Delhi's Toxic November: We Can't Afford to Ignore the Air Pollution Crisis
November has once again shown how bad air pollution in North India really is. This year, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached an alarming 1350, far above the safe limit. This isn’t just a number—it’s the toxic air we’re breathing every day. Shockingly, air pollution kills 20 lakh people in India every year, yet the government stays quiet, the media barely talks about it, and most people don’t realize how serious this is.
Governments are elected for just 5 years, but addressing long-term problems like air pollution requires significant investments, careful planning, and sustained effort. Since these solutions take longer than a single political term to show results, they are often overlooked. Instead, leaders tend to focus on short-term, emotionally charged issues that grab public attention and secure widespread voter support.
The public is often distracted by cheap, emotional topics that politicians use to gain support of mass voters.
Cleverly designed marketing and political campaigns are often created to manipulate public opinion in ways that go far beyond the understanding of the general public. These campaigns rely on emotional appeals, misinformation, and targeted messaging to divert attention from major, time-consuming, and costly issues like air pollution, water pollution, and education. Over time, people become so absorbed—or even brainwashed—by these distractions that they stop focusing on critical problems that directly impact their lives. This is why, for the majority of the population, there seems to be no sense of urgency about these matters.
Air Pollution: An Ongoing Crisis, Not Just a Seasonal Issue. The pollution we face isn’t limited to smoggy winters—it’s a year-round health emergency. Combatting it requires widespread awareness, consistent government action, and accountability. But to achieve this, we must educate ourselves and actively demand solutions from those in power.
