Delhi's pollution crisis and potential solutions.

Delhi's pollution crisis is prompting urgent actions as air quality has deteriorated to "severe" levels, primarily due to crop burning in neighboring states, vehicular emissions, and stagnant weather conditions. To address this, several measures are being implemented:

  1. Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP): Stage three of GRAP has been enforced, including bans on construction activities and restrictions on older vehicles (BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel). These measures aim to curb dust and vehicular emissions
  2. Promoting Electric Mobility: The government is expanding the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and integrating zero-emission buses into public transport. Incentives for EV purchases and investment in charging infrastructure are being enhanced
  3. 21-Point Winter Action Plan: Delhi's government has introduced measures targeting dust suppression, waste management, and real-time monitoring of pollution sources. This includes spraying roads with water, using anti-smog guns, and deploying teams to ensure compliance
  4. Public Health Advisory: Authorities advise residents to limit outdoor activities, use masks, and adopt indoor air-quality improvements like wet mopping to reduce dust exposure

The steps aim to provide both immediate relief and build toward long-term solutions, including transitioning to renewable energy sources to support sustainable practices. However, experts stress the need for cooperation among governments, industries, and citizens to effectively combat the recurring pollution problem.
