According to Delhi government officials familiar with the matter, the Ashram flyover and its extension, which links to the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyway, will finally open for commuters on Monday (March 6), following a two-month-long closure and several missed deadlines. This move is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion at the busy intersection and across the southern, southeastern, and central parts of the Capital.

The inauguration of the flyover?will take place at noon on Monday, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the state’s new Public Works Minister Kailash Gahlot in attendance, according to a government spokesperson.

According to a traffic police advisory issued on Sunday evening, the flyover will be open to the public at 5 pm. However, the Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Traffic Police have decided to restrict the use of the facility to light vehicles initially.

Officials have not revealed when heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses, will be allowed on the route, as they said it will require the shifting of high-tension wires and poles. The advisory stated that commuters using the Barapullah flyover should use the Ashram flyover instead.

However, the advisory added that commuters coming from Sarai Kale Khan should avoid using the Ashram flyover and plan their journey as usual.

The Ashram flyover extension, whose construction began in June 2020, has a total length of 1,425 meters and a total cost of INR 128.25 crore. The opening of the flyover is expected to make commuting between Delhi and Noida much more convenient.

According to a senior Public Works Department (PWD) official in charge of the Ashram project, the 1.4 km-long extension’s fundamental civil structure is complete, and the site is presently being cleaned up. However, the remaining infrastructure work, including street lights, road markings, signage, and other amenities, will be finished over the next month. A subway for pedestrians is also being constructed here, according to reports.
