India-UK to restart trade talks next year, says UK PM Keir Starmer

“A new trade deal with India will support jobs and prosperity in the UK, and represent a step forward in our mission to deliver growth and opportunity across our country,” Starmer said on Monday following a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Group of 20 summit in Brazil.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an "extremely productive meeting" with Starmer on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. "For India, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK is of immense priority. In the coming years, we are eager to work closely in areas such as technology, green energy, security, innovation and technology. We also want to add strength to trade as well as cultural linkages," PM Modi said on X.

The air quality in Delhi and its surrounding areas, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, hit "alarmingly high" levels on Tuesday, with most Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring stations registering the maximum 500-mark in the severe-plus category. A dense layer of smog continued to shroud the National Capital Region (NCR) for the seventh consecutive day, raising concerns about public health and safety.The hazardous air quality severely disrupted train services, with 22 trains delayed and eight rescheduled, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated. Prolonged exposure to the toxic smog has led to growing alarm among authorities and residents alike.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day Gujarat visit, on Monday (November 18) evening expressed confidence about the BJP and its allies winning the assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Meesho acts against 2.2 crore suspicious transactions, lodges 12 cases in a year

SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform Meesho has acted against 2.2 crore suspicious transactions on its platform and filed 12 cases in the last 12 months, according to the company's annual report released on Monday.

Meesho's 'Trust Assurance Report' said that it's team has developed pioneering analytical models, sophisticated data science frameworks, and advanced computational logic, which has helped prevent 13 lakh bot orders and blocked 77 lakh scam attempts from accessing the company's platform."In the last 12 months, Meesho has prevented over 2.2 crore fraudulent transactions. Additionally, Meesho undertook extensive steps to remove bad actors from the platform," the report said.

Timeline for next insurance reforms: Composite insurance license, risk-based solvency and IFRS accounting

Since the appointment of Debasish Panda as the IRDAI Chairman in March 2022, many structural reforms have been introduced for India's insurance sector. Some of the biggest reforms under Debasish Panda as IRDAI Chairman include the shift to principal-based regulations from rule-based, move towards 'use and file' regime from 'file and use', the Expenses of Management (EoM) Regulations and the latest one on providing higher surrender value to policyholders.

There are equally large insurance reforms waiting to unfold. These include Composite Insurance License, Risk-based Solvency and Supervision and IFRS accounting method.

Composite Insurance License will allow life insurers to manufacture health and other general insurance products like motor insurance and vice versa. Though the implementation of composite insurance license would only depend on parliamentary approval, when Panda was asked about his expectation, he said the earlier the approval comes in for Insurance Amendment Act which facilitates Composite Insurance License, the better it would be.
