Another way to accelerate your 2022 job search is to ditch your cover letter.

This is great news for the many job seekers who hate writing cover letters. Probably the reason you hate writing them is that your gut tells you they are a waste of time.

Well congratulate your gut, because it's right again. But if you want more proof, take it from the many recent studies where employers say they don't believe cover letters, and that cover letters actually hurt your chances of getting interviews and jobs.

In recent studies, 97% of employers said they believe your features and benefits are in your resume, but believe cover letters are "sellers fluff" that distracts your reader's attention from the document they believe - your resume.

But there are times that job descriptions request cover letters, some Applicant Tracking Systems won't let you apply without a cover letter, and you can't send a blank email with an attachment and expect a stranger to open it. That's ok, I'll show you a workaround when a cover letter is requested, required or expected.
