On Delegation of Work

We will hardly find an organisation where boss is not frustrated with the team players. The common blame is non-productivity to some extent. 

Actually the root of such dissatisfaction rests largely with the boss himself in most of the cases —the improper delegation of work. 

Tips to Delegate works successfully:

1. Matching the right fit

Choose some one who is the right fit for the task. Choose someone who can learn from the task, or gain confidence or recognition from doing it. In order to accomplish this phase successfully, the team leader needs to watch closely and observe the strengths and weaknesses of each and every team member for at least a time span of three months.

2. Briefing

?Brief well before delegating the task. Let him or her know the background. 

?Brief well what you expect from the assigned person –set the standards, deadlines or timescales, budget or resources available. 

?Be clear about the level of authority that is going to be delegated. 

3. Monitoring

?Periodically check in with the assigned person to find out how he /she is doing.

?Give him/her support required to perform the task. 

?Set the frequency and style of the monitoring. 

4. Feedback

?When the job is done, give him/her good feedback on what he/she has done that will help him/her to learn and build the confidence. 

?Give thanks or praise for the good things he/she has done. 

5. Plan B

While delegating the tasks the team leader musk keep the fact in mind that each person’s output is not guaranteed forever. A person who is very successful in one venture may not be successful, if asked to handle a different situation. Even the most successful salesman may fail when it comes to selling a different product, or in different region. 

So, have a Plan-B in order to avert the unwanted circumstances.
