DEI | Social Impact | Culture

Introduction to DEI | Social Impact | Culture LinkedIn Newsletter

Hi, I'm Beya Jiménez! I am an equity & inclusion strategist with a focus on social impact. I care about people, art, cities + places that help us connect. I yearn for a future where everyone’s basic human needs are met, where poverty and racism is extinguished and where our collective imagination is fed daily through art and civic spaces for connection.??

As an urban planner, my work has led me to create social impact opportunities with organizations willing to create systems that respond to the harms of the past while making way for a more connected future with people, equity and justice at the center. As a founder, I have collaborated with my peers to form networks addressing the marginalization of Black + Brown voices in planning (Planners of Color Network), and to fight for a more just housing market that works for all, not just a privileged few (Abundant Housing MA). As a creative, I have utilized travel as a tool for connection and belonging by connecting with entrepreneurs, artists, and visionaries aiming to make their cities more livable and more equitable using the tools at their disposal. As an immigrant, my work deals with people & cities because it is how I came to understand my own path as a newcomer to the United States from a small Caribbean nation. Learning what makes cities attractive to families like mine, where connections are happening that are shifting the global conversation towards justice, and how we can engineer civic and political responses to our world’s greatest problems is what keeps me fed and motivated.?

I migrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at 4 years old. An avid reader and curious about the world and my place in it, I landed my own radio show at 13 years old as part of my youth ministry at my local church. The outlet provided me with an opportunity to expand my voice and soon my craft led me to writing as I felt the conscious need to tell our stories from our lens. Through this newsletter, I hope to share the experiences that are driving compassionate leadership forward + the humanity keeping us connected and in the flow. I will allow my curiosity to lead the way, and invite you to explore people + places with me to help us find the common thread between us all. Join me along this path. Thank you for reading.?
