Is DEI Going Away? A US and European Perspective.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics are sometimes seen as an "American issue," but that's not the case. DEI has become a critical concept for professionals around the globe, making an international understanding of DEI essential for mobility and human resource professionals.

The conversation around DEI is indeed louder than ever. However, for Chief Diversity Officers (CDOs) and Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs), the path forward is not a straightforward one. It's a complex journey that requires patience, understanding, and perseverance.

We must address larger global systemic issues of inequity with local relevance, such as social justice, racism, and climate change. Ignoring these issues risks reinforcing and exacerbating existing inequities and disparities worldwide.

While progress has been made, it's essential to recognize the challenges that remain. Despite increased focus, significant roadblocks persist. The McKinsey Global Institute reports a continued lack of diversity in leadership roles, with women and people of color still underrepresented. Moreover, subtle forms of exclusion continue to impact employees from marginalized communities.
