Degree of Success?

College degree, a waste of time and money? Well, the most important factors for young people to be successful are; a good work ethic (61%), the ability to get along with others (57%), work skills learned on the job (46%), and a college degree (35%) according to Pew Research Center. Well, some are saying "College education is dead." (Jordan Peterson). "I learned nothing from four years at the Ivy League College. They tried to indoctrinate me into 'wokism'..." (Yeonmi Park). "College is worthless..." (Mark Zuckerberg)... There are mounting voices against the value of higher education and their fit in our quickly changing society with the demographic changes, pandemic, political and social paradigm shifts, and sky-rocketing cost of education where students are burdened with mounting debt for decades after graduation...

Yet today, still, a student may benefit from college, and university can be a life-changing experience, it might be a career prerequisite, some colleges still might not be as expensive, and some majors have proven records of strong ROI (Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, AI, AR programming...). Our top-tier 'movers and shakers' are graduates of some of the most elite colleges (social clicks). And they are not going away anytime soon...

On the other side, many say the college environment is saturated with political correctness, safe spaces, equity, no free speech, high tuition and debt, and entitlements, race and gender focus, indoctrination rather than teaching skills...

So, when you’re facing thousands of dollars in tuition costs and potential loan debt, it’s only natural to wonder if a college degree is worth it. The short answer is that it’s complicated. It’s difficult to provide mathematical proof that investing in a college education will provide real-dollar value throughout your life since there are many other factors at play. For instance, the type of career you want to pursue, how much you ultimately pay for college, and where you live post-graduation can all play a role in the value of your degree. And, for some students, a traditional college degree may not be the best choice if they want to work in a trade like plumbing or construction. However, that doesn’t mean your classroom days are over. If you ultimately decide not to pursue a bachelor’s degree, it’s still in your best interest to learn marketable skills through a certificate or trade school program.

It's a time for a deep analysis of self and higher education. I know it's complicated and very confusing... You decide carefully.

Let's face facts. A degree in medicine, engineering, etc. Those are useful degrees that of course well be worth more in the world. Degrees in angry feminist dance, ancient Greek philosophy, will move you from flipping burgers to fries. Choose wisely. Thanks for your time in this post my friend, stay safe.
