Defying Protocol: Seeking Australian Ambassador Leads to Detention

Defying Protocol: Seeking Australian Ambassador Leads to Detention:
The pursuit of procuring support from the Australian Embassy in Greece represents a persistent and continuous effort, initiated in the year 2017. Despite officially presenting a Resettlement Application in 2019, it is unfortunate that my application was subsequently refused in 2020 due to the lack of a Resettlement Referral from the UNHCR office, as per their assertion.
This coincided with the year wherein my shelter in close proximity to the UNHCR office was obliterated by the Greek Police for the fifth occasion and I was compelled to withstand the entirety of the summer on the sidewalk, amidst the unpleasant and repugnant dust outside this UN Agency under the scorching heat of summer, bereft of adequate shade while on Hunger Strike.
Because subsequent to the disappearance of my shelter, they also egregiously severed all the branches of the two trees situated in front of their office during such an unfavorable season, solely to deprive me of their shade. As a subsequent result, I was persistently exposed to direct sunlight throughout the entirety of the season, inevitably resulting in severe dehydration and a persistent life-threatening condition with each passing moment.
In practice, this was an illegal effort aiming at forcing?me to vacate the UNHCR premises rather than actually addressing this ongoing Hostage-taking issue, a measure by which they endeavored to dismiss the entire matter altogether. However, their plan did not succeed. Nevertheless, instead of providing any sort of relief thereafter, they have callously weaponized food and water with the ultimate objective of starving me to death while concealing their malevolent actions and arrogantly denying my very existence.
Coincidentally, this was also the same year wherein Covid-19 plagued the world, leading to strict lockdown measures all over the globe. Having already endured months of starvation outside the UNHCR office without any prospects of immediately being able to place another shelter there due to lack of funds, the palpable fear of freezing to death outside their office in the winter season was haunting me day and night, even more so during the two hospitalizations that I underwent in September that year, allegedly due to Gallstone attacks according to the doctors.
It stands to reason that the two Greek women who approached me during that summer and subsequently rendered assistance during my hospital stays, as well as provided a few months interim accommodations in the warehouse of their apartment subsequent to my release from the second Hospital, may have been acting as intermediaries in order to allow the Australian government sufficient time to process and subsequently decline my application, without due consideration for my pressing circumstances. A scenario most likely agreed upon by all the actors involved in the matter with the approval of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Which is why, subsequent to the decision on my application, they slyly endeavored to assign me to unpaid forced labor at a hotel managed by an Australian entity. This occurred after their unsuccessful attempts to coerce me into renewing my Asylum claim in Greece. Since my initial aspiration to submit a claim for Asylum in this country was non-existent, in truth, the feasibility of their plan succeeding was inherently flawed.
Notwithstanding the fact that I have elucidated this matter to them numerous times, the pressure exerted upon me remained relentless, which included the deprivation of crucial resources and sustenance for an extended period, in order to coerce me into doing so. This was done so that Greece's fascist regime could bypass accountability for my extended confinement—despite years of my persistent protest outside the UNHCR office, which I have been compelled to endure under the most harrowing circumstances without receiving any substantial support from any individual or organization within the country.
While it could be construed that the Australian hotel might have been exploited by the involved parties as a ploy to conceal their nefarious intentions and perhaps to mislead me once more in Greece, this could also imply a potential involvement of Australia in these transactions. Nevertheless, as their stratagem to enslave me in that Hotel, concurrent with my undocumented status, didn’t work either, consequently, they allotted a trifling amount of 50 Euros, discharged me from the Hotel and essentially left me in a perilous situation worse than what I had found myself in months earlier.
The incident transpired in May 2021, approximately one month prior to the partial alleviation of lockdown measures instigated by Covid-19 in specific areas, albeit not universally implemented. The allotment of 50 Euros was aimed at facilitating the acquisition of the requisite materials for establishing another shelter in the vicinity of the UNHCR office. Nevertheless, considering that the demolition of my shelter incurred costs of up to 500 Euros on each occurrence, the provided amount was deficient in procuring even the rudimentary element such as a tent, let alone additional fundamental components such as blankets, timbers, among others, combined with sustenance.
More importantly, owing to the lockdown measures still prevailing in numerous locations and extended until September of that year, including the shops in Monastiraki Square due to its customary crowded nature, from where I required to procure a robust and long-lasting tent, and also due to deliberate installation of a traffic cone at the precise location where my former shelters were situated outside the UNHCR office, dreadfully, the placement of my sixth shelter there was hindered until September that year. By that time, their contribution of 50 Euros had been entirely expended.
Consequently, for the second consecutive summer, I found myself obdurately positioned in the harshness of the outdoors, devoid of shelter, frequenting numerous embassies and organizations in a desperate search for assistance whilst perpetually grappling with hunger. Nevertheless, not only did they not provide any aid, on the contrary, they further exacerbated the situation by relentlessly involving the Police, resulting in my repeated detention.
The situation was decidedly more severe within the premises of the UNHCR office, as frequent contact with the Police was a common occurrence, even during the midnight hours. Each interaction precipitated protracted periods of detention, which ultimately compelled me to seek refuge in the bushes outside the yard of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) where in addition to contending with xenophobic and racist aggression from various individuals, I was also plagued by infestations of ants, rats and mosquitoes throughout the entirety of this ordeal.
Notwithstanding the successful procurement of the essential funds to purchase a tent and additional requisite items, primarily made possible by generous overseas donations; I am yet in the requirement of thermal garments and a heating appliance. Additionally, due to the inadequacy of the humanitarian assistance received, apart from the remaining indispensable necessities, I am persistently faced with acute food scarcity. This perpetual hardship endures despite my unwavering pursuit to secure an emergency grant which, regrettably, remains unattained to the present day.
Although despite withstanding extraordinary circumstances in the vicinity of the UNHCR office, I relentlessly sought contact with embassies of countries where I aspire to seek Asylum, including but not limited to Australia, via written communication or personal visits, nonetheless, besides experiences of detention, assaults, obliteration of my personal belongings, and continuous deceptive assertions by the Police force, it is with mounting concern that I express the absence of a fitting response from any party associated with this case. My most recent visit to the Australian embassy on Friday, September 08th, 2023, was no exception to this ongoing trend.
This visit occurred subsequent to an official communication addressed to them four days earlier, soliciting a meeting with their Diplomatic Representative. The principal aim behind such an interaction was to put forth my sincere plea for urgent intervention regarding the recurring matters, which were once more brought to the attention of their Prime Minister and the Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs earlier on that very day.
The communication outlined below, incorporated my comprehensive and extensive communiqué to the highest-ranking representatives of the UNHCR in both Geneva and Greece, dated September 12th, 2022, which delineates my grievous circumstances, spanning from 2014 till the original date of dispatch. This communication is made available to the public on my Facebook Page Here and YouTube Channel Here for those interested parties who wish to acquaint themselves with its content. These resources, along with the written account of my online Petition, are also readily accessible Here.
The previously referenced communication, directed towards the Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, was also noticeably extensive, thereby presenting difficulties in generating a screenshot suitable for inclusion in this piece. Nonetheless, it can be briefly observed within the visual recording of my visitation to their diplomatic mission, situated at the end of this article preceding the conclusion. In the ensuing section, the content of the email will be divulged.
To PM Anthony Albanese and Minister Andrew Giles:
Dear Prime Minister, Hon Anthony Albanese MP and Minister Andrew Giles MP;
I am writing once again to humbly request your esteemed assistance in resolving the severe hostage situation and complete deprivation that I am currently enduring in Greece. As you are undoubtedly aware, I have been diligently corresponding with and visiting your Embassy in Athens, Greece since 2017, desperately seeking your support. However, regrettably, my distressing circumstances have not witnessed any improvement to date. On the contrary, the conditions have deteriorated to such an extent that Greece has resorted to weaponizing vital resources like food and water since 2020, with the ultimate intention of subjecting me to starvation and orchestrating a cover-up. Shockingly, this heinous crime has been perpetrated with the tacit approval of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), before which I have been positioned outside its premises since March 21st, 2017.
This is when they must be answering the following questions instead:
1) Why have they held me Hostage in this country and won’t let me go?
2) What is their end game and agenda?
3) And what is the solution to this problem?
Obviously, to obtain the Hostage-takers' accountability for their actions and ultimately solicit an apology and reparation for the unjust infliction they have caused upon me without any justification, assistance is needed and I am hereby requesting yours.
This evidently is a matter of Justice and Freedom, and I regrettably do not appreciate being treated poorly at your Embassy, neither by the security personnel nor by the Police who may get involved promptly thereafter, as this is precisely what has been occurring thus far since 2017 nearly every time I have visited seeking assistance.
Resolving this issue should have never taken such a protracted period, unless we are absolutely certain that it is solely a politically motivated act of hostage-taking, irrespective of how they may wish to present it to others. Although in many other cases, even political Hostages have never been held for so long without a reasonable known cause or having someone to take responsibility and answer for their crimes. Nevertheless, in this particular case, nobody has as of yet assumed responsibility for the ongoing situation, despite my persistent inquiries. Thus, it is imperative that my urgent and dire predicament be promptly addressed and resolved, as this ultimate barbarity cannot go on any longer.
In an effort to pursue this objective, your Embassy in Athens along with many other Embassies have been invited on my part on June 21st, June 29th, July 13th and August 24th, 2023, to attend a meeting with the UNHCR Greece with the presence of its top officials from Geneva as well as myself, to expeditiously find a resolution to this ongoing Hostage-taking in Greece. Furthermore, separate requests have also been submitted to the UNHCR for the same purpose prior to my own invitations. Your Embassy in Athens thus far has not responded to any of my emails in this relation.
Which is why I have decided on reaching out to you again in order to formally plead for urgent consideration of one of the following propositions to help bring an end to my prolonged imprisonment and complete deprivation in Greece:
* Grant me entry to Australia and let me seek Asylum/Protection there upon arrival.
* OR accept a Refugee Resettlement Application from me without a Resettlement Referral from the UNHCR office and also without the need for acquiring Private Sponsors be it through Approved Proposing Organizations (APO) or Community Organizations.
* OR to issue a formal expression of interest in granting me Asylum that should be addressed to the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) so that my Resettlement in Australia through this UN Agency could occur immediately and without any further delays and procrastination whether deliberate or otherwise.
Furthermore, due to the severity of the situation, I would also like to kindly request an emergency grant on humanitarian grounds to aid in my survival while I am still awaiting a response to the above urgent plea to your esteemed government for Asylum. If necessary, I can complete any required forms for the processing of this request. Alternatively, kindly consider making a donation or directing donations to my fundraising campaign at the following link:
Please also be informed that I would also once again be visiting your Embassy in Athens at the earliest possible opportunity in order to personally convey this request to the Australian government through its Ambassador in the country. Since they are also copied on this email, I am hereby requesting an appointment in this regard from your Embassy in order to avoid Police involvement and other dramatic experiences that might follow afterwards.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you at the earliest possible opportunity.
Please do not take the matters brought to your attention herein lightly and act now. An acknowledgement of receipt of this email would also be greatly appreciated.
Yours Respectfully;
Friday, September 08th, 2023 — Embassy Events:
To this date, I have yet to receive a response to either of my emails. Moreover, the chain of events that transpired at the premises of the Australian Embassy on September 08th, 2023, were as follows:
Subsequent to my arrival and installation of my Banner in the public space wherein it was affixed to a suitable traffic signage, I proceeded towards the reception with the intention of formally declaring my presence therein and soliciting their aid in notifying the Australian Embassy of my unwavering determination to secure an appointment with their Ambassador.
Nevertheless, prior to moving forward, I noticed a male individual in ordinary attire who photographed me from afar and subsequently engaged in a conversation with a Police officer who was already on-site upon my arrival. This occurred while I was in the process of recording my initial statements on the camera before heading towards the entrance.
The building, along with undisclosed organizations, as reported by a resident in 2020, also accommodates the Finnish and Norwegian Embassies with their respective Coat of Arms displayed on the exterior wall adjacent to that of Australia, which can be observed prior to approaching the entrance and are discernible from a distance.
The attendant at reception, arguably vigilant of my progress, had secured the ingress the moment I directed myself towards it. This was an unerring duplicate of the comparable operation which I have been compelled to endure at the UNHCR office since March 21st, 2017. Moreover, upon my arrival at the entrance, I discerned him adopting a clandestine position behind his desk, evidently to evade documentation of his unlawful activities via my camera. These actions, consisting primarily of utilizing the entrance as an obstruction, resulted in a significant hindrance to my access to their desk - or indeed, any personnel within the confines of the Australian Embassy.
Knocking on the window pane and loudly declaring my presence from the outside appeared to have no effect, implying his strict adherence to explicit directives to deny my access to the structure, irrespective of prevailing conditions. Nevertheless, I clearly communicated my presence and the inherent objectives of my visit to the aforementioned Police officer, who seemed to have trailed me soon after I departed from my Banner and progressed towards the front desk.
Upon altering my orientation, his presence was duly noted a few meters in retrospect. Notwithstanding our absence of previous communication, I offered a salutation and subsequently queried, "Are you here?" Thereafter, gesturing towards the prominently displayed Australian Coat of Arms situated on the outer wall, I requested, "I would like to speak with the receptionist. I want to see the Australian Ambassador." The officer, in a timely fashion, retorted, "They have been informed, and a supervisor will come here to speak."
Upon conducting an enquiry regarding the source of their information, the officer provided a clarification by stating, “I informed the security officer of the building.” Afterwards, while once again pointing towards Australia’s Coat of Arms on the building's outer wall, I articulated, “I want to speak with the Australian Embassy, the Ambassador.” In continuation, I then queried, “Why is the door locked?” While steadfastly maintaining, “I want to speak with the reception.”
At this current juncture, the officer—while articulating, “One moment, please,” —appeared to be engaging in communication with a different party through his mobile apparatus, walking away without addressing my inquiry. It remained indeterminable whether the motive for this action was a need for direction or for a separate cause. Concurrently, an additional visitor found themselves unable to gain entry due to the entrance being secured, a consequence of my presence nearby.
Subsequently, while gesturing towards the reception, I revisited my conversation with the officer, who had since positioned himself further away and courteously inquired, “Will you inform them?” Unfortunately, he continued to overlook my solicitation. Thus, subsequent to his presumably cessation of telephone conversation, I felt compelled to reestablish contact, articulating with grace, “Mr. Policeman, I would like to reach the reception.”
The officer, who had further distanced himself from me and was currently situated on the staircase, voiced his actions, "I made the call." However, when I asked about the person on the receiving end of his conversation, he furnished an ambiguous answer, articulating, "I informed them." Consequently, I felt compelled to question once more, "Informed whom?" Yet, his response remained unaltered. It was at that moment that I indicated towards the reception and verbalized, "Reception?" However, his response was negative, conveyed through a singular, "No."
Upon further deliberation, I revisited the question of who he had been in communication with. In response to this, the officer provided the information that he had been in contact with "The security officer." I then once again attempted to articulate my previous assertions, but my efforts were interrupted by his declaration, "I am not responsible for the Embassy. I don't speak for the Embassy." To this, I posed the question, "Why did you engage in conversation with the building security?" concurrently, whilst indicating towards the reception area, I reiterated my need, "I need to establish contact with the reception."
The guardsman responded formally, "Understood," but refrained from adding any further comments. Subsequently, while gesturing towards the reception, I posited once more, "May I inquire as to why the door is locked?” He remained quiet, without uttering a syllable, as if he had not perceived my inquiry. Thereafter, I posed the question assertively once again, "Why is the door locked?" Be that as it may, he chose to overlook my question for the second time, electing to state, “Wait, wait, one moment,” a phrase which ostensibly served the purpose of biding time for the arrival of the Police force, intended to escort me off the property, rather than providing any other form of explanation.
The weather conditions were notably turbulent throughout the day, perpetually provoking the movement of my Banner, and ensuing potential damages. Due to my inability to access the building, I opted to retreat to my Banner’s location, where I undertook the necessary precautions to certify its safety. This involved positioning my bag on one of its dual bases, affording additional stability to mitigate any further movement. Furthermore, it was securely tethered to the traffic sign from the top.
Upon reinstating my presence at my Banner’s location, the ingress was expeditiously unlocked, admitting entry to the individual erstwhile stranded outside. Adjoining this occurrence, I discerned the approach of an additional person towards the entryway, sporting a jacket emphatically ornamented with the Norwegian flag. From my Banner’s position, advancing in his direction, I respectfully addressed him, “Excuse me, are you from the Norwegian Embassy?”
Despite pausing briefly to regard me, the individual promptly swiveled and proceeded towards the entrance, neglecting to respond to my inquiry. In response, I mirrored his actions. Observing my approach once again, the receptionist secured the entrance, preventing the man's access as well. This provided me the opportunity to catch up to him at the entrance, where he endeavored to scan his identification for access, albeit unsuccessfully.
Notwithstanding, due to his persistent negligence towards my attempts of communication, all my endeavors to establish a communicative bridge with him were rendered ineffective. Taking note of his failure to gain admission into the premises, he consequently reverted his course. Following this, he initiated a concise discussion pertaining to the situation at hand with the present guardsman, who had, yet again, trailed me downstairs while ensuring to maintain a certain distance.
The dialogue transpired in Greek, making it unintelligible for me, but its general tone inferred that the officer guaranteed the civilian of the prompt arrival of the Police to facilitate my removal. Thereafter, the individual receded along his prior path of arrival. I was unable to deduce whether this was intended for accessing a rear entrance to the building or for a subsequent return.

Friday, September 08th, 2023 — Embassy Events — Police Arrival:
Within a modest timeframe, the presence of the Police Force was observed. Initially, a contingent of four officers, attired in their official black regalia, made their presence known accompanied by two motorcycles. As the erstwhile stationed officer was immersed in briefing the newly commissioned officers about the prevailing situation, whilst maintaining a significant distance from my current locale, I perceived the receptionist discreetly exiting the building, whilst still preserving a significant space between them on the staircase.
At the given time, I found myself in close quarters to my Banner, while he preserved an interval of roughly 10 meters. Subsequently, I made the move towards him and when I met his spot, expressed with due respect, "Hey, I already informed this Policeman," while signaling towards the attendant officer stationed with his colleagues at the periphery of the lane, roughly 10 meters away, and proceeded to remark, "I would like to speak with the Australian Embassy."
However, to my profound astonishment and dismay, his inexplicable silence lingered while casting his gaze in various directions and wholly disregarding me. “I am talking to you,” I asserted with clarity. Nonetheless, he stubbornly remained unresponsive. Subsequent to this, I conveyed, “Kindly inform the Australian Embassy of my presence and I request a meeting with their Ambassador.”
Again, he maintained his silence. Without uttering a single word, he then procured his mobile device from his rear pocket, scrutinized the display, before placing it back in its original spot. Subsequently, I attempted to command his attention once more by stating, “Mr. I am talking to you.” However, his lack of response suggested an apparent disregard for my presence, as if I were merely an apparition.
Undeniably, the prudence of persisting at the same location, indulging in unilateral discussions whilst simultaneously navigating hunger pangs and immense exhaustion, offered no benefits. Thus, I withdrew and returned to the precinct where my Banner was mounted, situating myself at the very forefront of it.
Up until that juncture, the officers who had just arrived had not initiated any form of communication with me. Nevertheless, they eventually advanced towards the vicinity where the receptionist had previously stationed himself on the staircase, yet they swiftly retreated without establishing any form of communication with me.
Subsequently, a member of the squad, who appeared to have command, initiated a telephonic interaction with another entity upon discerning my sign. Ostensibly, their exchange was conducted in Greek, a vernacular which fell beyond my scope of understanding, even if that involved comprehending only one side of their discourse.
Shortly thereafter, a Patrol Car bolstered by two additional Police officers arrived at the spot. Subsequently, two other Policemen, clad in black uniforms, arrived riding another Motorcycle. Consequently, there were now nine Policemen assembled at the scene. One of the officers who made his appearance with the most recent Motorcycle appeared to assume the role of the lead Officer.
A succinct time frame was devoted among the group for a confidential discussion concerning the quandary, prior to the unanticipated emergence of the commanding officer from behind my Banner, resulting in an unforeseen startle. Subsequent to this, they were dispersed throughout my immediate surroundings. My attention was primarily focused on the evolving situations within my field of vision, which I was able to monitor and record without impediment, whether from my Banner or the shrubbery positioned behind me, oblivious to the fact that my cellular device was failing to record the scene via its posterior camera as initially presumed.
The apparatus has incurred significant damage from repeated interactions with the Police. The extent of the damage is now critically severe, with the screen nearly fully detached from the rest of it, leaving it vulnerable to potential failure at any point in time. It is within the realm of possibility that any further forced confiscation by the Police could render it completely inoperable. Consequently, I have been exercising considerable caution with it.
Notwithstanding, the entirety of the conversation with the officer was documented, even though neither of us were completely visible within the frame during the discourse. Upon realizing that his abrupt appearance from behind my Banner had startled me, the officer's initial utterance was, “Do not be afraid.” Subsequently, there were brief exchanges amongst the officer, his companion, and myself - the latter party insisting I cease recording, the main officer implying no objections to the recording, and I, maintaining my stance by iteratively expressing that the video documentation was a requisite for my personal safety.
Ultimately, my phone was not coercively taken away by them, allowing the conversation to proceed whilst being recorded. "It’s okay. Just listen to me," the supervising officer expressed subsequently before proceeding to inquire, "What’s the problem here? Tell me?" In response, I explicated, "I am here to speak with the Ambassador at the Australian Embassy." Upon hearing this, the officer affirmed, “Okay.”
Subsequently, I apprised the officer of the prevailing situation, stating, “They locked the door as soon as they saw me. I wasn’t able to reach the reception. I informed the security, the other guy over there,” whilst subtly gesturing towards the receptionist who was stationed considerably farther back from my position and further expounded, “I informed this Policeman,” whilst pointing towards the officer who was in the vicinity upon my arrival and was currently situated directly behind the lead officer.
Continuing the dialogue, “So, nothing. They won’t let me reach the reception.” The officer then articulated, “Okay. Listen to me. As far as I know, you have to make an appointment to speak...,” However, having felt it necessary to interject, I pronounced, “I asked for an appointment. Greece has weaponized food and water and wants to starve me to death. I don’t have food. I don’t have water. I am here as you can see in front of the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency,” while indicating my Banner to underline my point, then carrying on, “They held me Hostage for 10-years. I have no more money. All my money is finished. I need to leave this country now.”
The officer solemnly affirmed, "Okay, we will help you. Right now," However, I cut him off and stated, "The help I want from you is, I would like to speak with the Ambassador," while gesturing towards Australia's Coat of Arms displayed on the exterior wall. "We will fix it," the officer declared, before inquiring, "Right now do you have any papers with you?" In response, I elucidated that the requisite documents had been safely tucked into my bag. He followed up with, "Can you put it out? The papers."
I sought a brief moment to retrieve my documents, whilst urging them to abstain from any form of hostility towards me. At this juncture, my mobile device’s camera happened to encapsulate a panoramic view of the immediate vicinity, distinctly displaying each officer dispersed across the landscape. Upon the extraction of my expired identification document, I respectfully handed it over to the lead officer, expressly declaring the absence of any supplementary documents. To this, the officer retorted, "That’s the only paper you have?" Confirming his inquiry with an affirmation, he, in turn, acknowledged the situation.
Upon the completion of safeguarding my remaining documents, all meticulously organized within a plastic dossier, into my personal backpack, an examination of my expired document was conducted during my absence. As I resumed my previous standing position, the supervising officer, engrossed in conversation with his peers, approached me again and declared, “Okay, listen to me. We are going to make a report. That we came here and that you want an appointment with the Ambassador, the Embassy, okay, exactly what you told us, but as for now, you will have to come with us to the local Police Station just to make a report on the PC and you will be back here.” Following this directive, he inquired about the feasibility of the aforementioned process with the question, “Is that easy for you to do?”
In retort, I questioned, “Can you take a look at these pictures?” while directing their attention to my Banner once more, and further queried, “Do you know for how many years I have been coming here asking for an appointment to speak with the Ambassador?” To my queries, the officer asserted, “I know, and I am with you, but, as for now, for the procedure, to take notes about this incident at the local Police Station, and after that, everything is okay, we can make and fix an appointment with the Embassy.”
Upon hearing his suggestion, I respectfully asked, “How do you fix that? Will you give me a letter or send a letter to them?” In reply, he suggested, “You will take a letter from the local Police Station…,” At this point, I felt the need to interject and expressed, “They won’t give me a letter.” He then assuredly responded, “No. No. No. I will fix that. I will fix that. Okay. And then we can make an appointment.”
Subsequently, I inquired, “What do I do with this supposed letter that you are to give me at the Police Station?” The officer appeared to lack comprehension of my question, responding with a succinct, “Sorry?” Thus, I opted to provide clarity, articulating, “You said, you will give me a letter at the Police Station.” And subsequently queried, “What do I do with this letter?” He then outlined, “This will say that you came here, you wanted to get inside, for a reason they didn’t…,” Astonishingly, he then queried, “What did they ask or tell you?” as though my prior explanation hadn’t sufficiently shed light on the circumstances.
Nevertheless, in response to his inquiry, I communicated with assured certainty, “Nothing, they aren’t talking to me. They just locked the door and when I try talking to them, they are not talking back.” Thereupon, the officer affirmed, “Okay, so, you do not have any problems. But you have to come with us, everything is okay and we will fix that in the local Police Station.” Subsequently, he probed, “Is that okay?”
In response, I articulated, “I go to the Police Station. I have been there hundreds of times. I need a resolution to my situation.” The officer reverted promptly, “No. No. No. We do not want to take you to the local Police Station a hundred times.” I then rectified his understanding and mentioned, “I already have been to the Police Station hundreds of times.” His rejoinder was, “I don’t know about the past. I speak for now. Just for now the procedure is to go to the local Police Station as I told you and try to find a solution to this problem of you. Nothing else. Nothing more.”
Subsequently, I inquired, “The letter you give me, can I bring it here to the Embassy?” whilst pointing to the Australia’s Coat of Arms on the exterior wall. Responding to my query, the officer confirmed, “I suppose, yes. Although we will try to make a call to the Embassy from the local Police Station.” Upon hearing this, I posed another question, “You will do all that?” He responded affirmatively, by saying, “Yeah, Yeah.” Subsequently, I asked, “What is your name? May I ask?” He answered, “My name is Alex.” Perceiving a lack of his complete identification, I further inquired, “Alex what?” He responded, implying his first name was sufficient and stated, “That’s all. Alex.”
“Is that your assigned number?” I subsequently queried while gesturing towards his left arm, oblivious to the fact that my camera wouldn’t be capturing it. Notwithstanding, he affirmed by declaring, “Of course.” I then announced, “If you take me to the Police Station, I will need to collect my Banner.” He conveyed his acquiescence with his words, “No Problem.” Subsequently, I stipulated, “No Pressure, no attacks, please.” To which he replied, “Only me with you, is that okay?” and further inquired, “Do you feel safe with me?”
In acknowledgement of his enquiry, I politely intoned, “It’s alright. I mean, I don’t want to be attacked by the Police. As you see, I am here nicely. Civilian.” The officer provided reassurance that there would be no aggression towards me, and subsequently inquired, “So, can you take the …?” In affirmation, I replied, “Yes, however, I need a few minutes.” In turn, he articulated, “I am waiting. Pack your bags please.”
Subsequently, he, in conjunction with three additional officers, proceeded to interact with the receptionist – who it appears also functioned as the building’s security personnel – who was still outside, presumably anticipating my removal by the Police prior to returning inside the premises. Meanwhile, I continued to be under the watchful eyes of the remaining officers.
In tandem with the finalization of my task to arrange my Banner, he continued his engagement with the receptionist. Evidently, their exchange was conducted entirely in Greek, a language beyond my comprehension. Moreover, the physical distance of approximately 10 meters between them and myself inhibited my ability to distinctly hear their dialogue.
At the termination of their discussion, the lead officer returned to my vicinity and queried, “Can we take your bags and go?” With no opposition on my behalf, he offered to assist in handling my backpack. Considering the manageability and its relatively lightweight nature, I assured him with courteous articulation that his offer was appreciated, but not necessary.
Nevertheless, prior to progressing towards the Patrol Car, I tactfully inquired, “Did you inform them that I will be coming back to give them the letter for an appointment?” In response, the officer reassuringly affirmed, “Of course, I told them everything. We will go together to the local Police Station, and we will have a solution with the Embassy. Okay? Let’s go.” Subsequently, I adhered to his instructions and headed towards the Patrol Car.
Upon arriving at the vehicle, two officers were already poised for our forthcoming encounter. The door of the vehicle was courteously opened by one, while the other, standing in an assertive stance behind the car, intoned, “You won’t be able to record inside the Police Car, okay?” I acknowledged and promptly queried, “Where should I put my belongings, here, or there?”, elucidating my question by gesturing first towards the trunk and then the passenger’s seat. The officer stated that they should accompany me. “With you, on your feet.” He rudely articulated.
Friday, September 08th, 2023 — Embassy Events — Police Station:
Upon reaching the Police Station, I was subjected to a detention period of 3 hours without any line of questioning, prior to my release. Furthermore, the lead officer — who had made assertions at the premises of the Australian Embassy — was never seen again. The officials from the Police Station, primarily young individuals of an impolite demeanor, disregarded my numerous requests to contact him, whilst they lingered outside the Station by their Motorcycles, engaging in conversation amongst themselves.
Upon the completion of the designated time frame for my detainment, the staff on-duty had transitioned, and the responsibility was transferred to a young female officer. This change resulted in a somewhat different atmosphere as she conceivably exhibited less hostility than her preceding peers, who were predominantly male, a portion of them still present.
Thereupon, I seized the moment to query about the lead officer from the prior team. His presence was no longer evident in the vicinity of the Police Station, instigating a formal solicitation for his presence via the female officer. She then categorically stated that the other officers were affiliated with a different Police Station, and subsequently expressed her inability to establish communication with them.
In recounting the commitments made by the lead officer at the premises of the Australian Embassy prior to my escort to their Police Station, the officer professed a lack of knowledge regarding such commitments and subsequently maintained that they were unable to supply me with a letter intended for the Australian Embassy, or, alternatively, dispatch one directly, either via email or facsimile. Moreover, my suggestion for establishing a telephonic discourse with the embassy was also met with denial while vehemently insisted on my immediate departure.
Upon my discharge, which occurred significantly past four o'clock in the afternoon, the embassy had concluded its daily operations. Afflicted by excessive exhaustion, it was most unfortunate that I was without the necessary provisions or a sleeping bag that might have enabled me a return to the Australian Embassy with a view to patiently tolerate an ostensibly boundless delay, aspiring for a dialogue with any available consulate member. While same-day hopes might have proved fruitless due to the late hour, the prospect for a meeting on the ensuing day remained.
However, the ensuing day being a Saturday, it proposed a different challenge, as the embassy would maintain its closure. Hence, the prospect of returning to the embassy seemed to carry an inescapable threat of continued detainment by the Police, possibly escalating to more troubling situations encompassing physical maltreatment, damage to my personal items, supplementary legal measures, court trials, and so on.
Consequently, my only recourse was to return to my sanctuary near the premises of the UNHCR division. The voyage homeward was riddled with trepidation, primarily due to the potential reality of my shelter having been dismantled. Albeit upon reaching my destination, the sight of my possessions intact provided me with considerable relief. Regardless, a prominent problem lingered – my dwelling was bereft of any form of sustenance, even items as fundamental as biscuits.
This compelled the articulation and dispatch of an ancillary electronic mail to the UNHCR, set on the exact date, posited to emphasize the critical requirement for swift aid regarding sustenance, sanitation and financial subsidies. Albeit akin to my preceding correspondence with them in relation to this matter, transacted over the past years, persistently anticipates a response to this day.
The recorded footage of this visit to the Australian Embassy is available for perusal here.

Civil Engineer, Exiled for 20 years and held captive in Greece for over a decade, my life embodies resilience, hope, and a relentless struggle for liberty and dignity.
1 年In light of the proposals submitted to Australia since 2017, and reiterated in my latest correspondence to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Immigration on September 04th, 2023, intended to procure a swift resolution to the ongoing hostage situation in Greece, it appears these propositions were yet again not given the due consideration they warranted. Initially, an email glitch prevented my message from reaching the Prime Minister’s inbox. An alternative email address was then sought on September 05th through their contact form, with a follow-up PDF submission of my email to them on September 12th when no reply was forthcoming. As per the enclosed letter, it appears my communication had subsequently been forwarded to the Minister’s office, as it addresses that communication as opposed to the one dispatched on September 04th, 2023.
