Defy Appliances is Expanding its Research and Development Network
Defy Appliances is expanding its Research and Development network by collaborating with key universities in South Africa. October 2019 marks the date of an agreement with Wits University, to start a collaboration for engineering studies.
WITS/DEFY Collaboration Agreement signing: Nihat Bay?z (Central R&D Director (Arcelik)), Evren Albas (Regional Director - Sub - Sahara, (Defy)) and Prof. Ian Jandrell (Dean- Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment (Wits)).
Projects will be undertaken at a postgraduate and undergraduate level and will provide students with first hand exposure to the manufacturing environment, allowing them to gain valuable knowledge and experience that employers seek in future employees. Students working in conjunction with Defy’s Engineering team will focus on innovative products and production techniques with an aim to commercialize them.
The University of Witwatersrand originated as the South African School of Mines which was founded in 1896. In 1903, the school moved to Johannesburg and later became the University of the Witwatersrand in 1922.
Wits has a long and distinguished history and has produced four Nobel Laureates including Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela. To this day, Wits continues to attract and produce top-class academics and innovative students.
We look forward to this partnership, and we would like to express our gratitude to Wits University for their enthusiastic participation and support.
