Defund the UN

Call me a radical, but I am of the belief that it is time we rethink the role of the United Nations.

Once upon a time, it was a good idea.

Now, however, like many things that are born and grow into maturity, it is a dying institution.

I look at the members of the Human Rights Council and ask myself how we can take it seriously if China, Somalia, and Qatar have seats there?

I look at the UN Commission on Women and see Afghanistan and Pakistan there? How do we take that seriously?

A large part of the world is undemocratic, doesn’t respect human rights, and doesn’t respect women rights. Why do we pretend that every country has an equal say when it comes to voting on these things?

It may be a place for diplomats to feel good about themselves, but in terms of real value for the world, I’m increasingly skeptical.
